EB sell video game consoles not blue ray players so why would he bother telilng him the other shit. Maybe you should of sent him to a electronics store that sells the PS3 as a blue ray player.

omg wtf are you talking about. Have you not looked at the shelves at your local EB/Gamestop lately? If you look at the PS3 shelves they sell Blu-Ray Movies.
Also the guy said he will be back later that week meaning he is still going to buy the PS3, he just needs money to buy a game or two.

My favorite VG conversation........
Man: Excuse my son wants to get the new Nintendo system I can't remember the name.
Old Lady Clerk: It's right over here and the name of it is the Playstation 3.
Man: Ok, this is the one where you shake the controller right.
Old Lady Clerk: Yes, and it's $600.
Man: He told me it was $250, he going to have to work for this (while laughing with the old lady)
Old Lady Clerk:Here you go it's heavy.
Man: Thanks can I also have a copy of that Zelda for this.
Old Lady Clerk: Ok one second................
After waiting for about a minute I intervened and got everything right for him, he thanked me and went on his way (there was no Wii's there), I was waiting on the lady to give me Resident Evil out of the Wii case so I had to do something.
I think this is the price point problem writ very specifically -- thanks to ckmlb for reporting this. It's clear that this customer was very prepared to buy -- but then realizing he wouldn't be able to do much with it for his initial investment put him off for a little while longer. The selling proposition at $650 was acceptable, or he had worked himself up to it, but at $700 not quite so much. Everyone has their psychological barriers when it comes to price, and a minor disappointment can make the difference between sale and no sale.
Hopefully in the meantime this customer will do a little research as to which game he should buy so when he comes back he'll be set to go and happy with his purchase. It's been a long time since a pack-in game was standard, so maybe the PS3 is also bringing some people back to gaming with its techno-allure as the Wii appears to be doing with its accessibility.

Ouch. That's just wrong. I doubt that was ignorance so much as it was decietful.

Actually, I have the largest Gamestop in Texas (and I'm fairly sure one of the largest ones), it's just that it really is a crap job. You constantly have people asking about games, do you like x game or y game better, what system is better, is z game out yet, if not when will it be out, angry mothers, little snots that hang out there all day, little snots that try to talk to you because they for some reason look up to you, little snots that think they're better than you, ect. Unless you're a 360 achievement score, shit pay + insane annoyances + free rental isn't worth it. I haven't worked there (though was depserate enough for a job at one point while waiting for people to get back to me I asked for an application) but know plenty of people that have and it just sucks. Actually, every retail job sucks. |
Wow, you're spot on. I've never heard a more accurate description of my job, right down to the annoying little snots who have nothing better to do than stay in the store all day and argue the pros and cons of FF-X versus the new 50 cent game.
A little something about working at Gamestop:
-You start off at minimum wage (5.15, currently). After working for 7 months, my pay has gone up to a whole 5.25.
-There really isn't much "fun" involved. It's mainly putting up marketing kits and stocking/organizing games.
-There are no incentives to sell anything except reservations and subscriptions, and even then, if you do well you get nothing more than a pat on the back.
-Every manager gets the power to run his/her store as they think, meaning that if they're cool, it's a better place to work, but if all they care about is store performance, then it's gonna suck.
I still work there because I think my manager is awesome, and as a second job, I must say it's more fun than most other jobs I've had, but only when the store is dead.

One person's experience or opinion never shows the general consensus

There are many people who want a PS3 but then when they hear the price decide to wait until buying one .
The strange thing is the seller not jumping over him and trying to sell him a X360 .
