I think this is the price point problem writ very specifically -- thanks to ckmlb for reporting this. It's clear that this customer was very prepared to buy -- but then realizing he wouldn't be able to do much with it for his initial investment put him off for a little while longer. The selling proposition at $650 was acceptable, or he had worked himself up to it, but at $700 not quite so much. Everyone has their psychological barriers when it comes to price, and a minor disappointment can make the difference between sale and no sale.
Hopefully in the meantime this customer will do a little research as to which game he should buy so when he comes back he'll be set to go and happy with his purchase. It's been a long time since a pack-in game was standard, so maybe the PS3 is also bringing some people back to gaming with its techno-allure as the Wii appears to be doing with its accessibility.
