I thought MS wants to just cruise along and make some more profits from its gaming division to please shareholders. Have no price cut this year and wait until next year when Sony reduces the price of PS3 in America and MS counter it with a price cut on the X360.

The X360 hardware is profitable, and still would be after the cut.Remember folks: The 65nm archatecture is set to launch THIS MONTH. More than likely a Sept. price cut would happen when the newer, cheaper-to-produce systems hit the market. MS did this last year - Drop the price when you make a console revision.

They are shedding a boat load of cost with the Jasper revision, especially if the rumors that they are combining the GPU/ED ram die are true. Its a shrink of the memory/chipsets and not just the GPU and you can bet that warranty costs on this model will be lower than the Falcon model - thats for sure.
I think its a little aggressive but maybe thats what they need to regain their lost momentum?

Annual revision of X360 console. When will a slimline X360 appear on the market?

If you believe the posted roadmap rumors - Late next year.
The reason? They can package the console very small if they combine the GPU/CPU. A lot of the signs indicate thats where they'd be heading if you consider rumors of the Xbox360 being combined into everything from TVs to toasters. Its the endgame for the Xbox360 - its the next 3-4 years of its life that they are thinking about now. Wow thats pretty messy and illogical! Im tired sorry, so im out.
For more information - check out the Fusion CPU from AMD for more ideas about how they will be designing the shrunk chips.
