Well sorry, but there aren't too many people who live in Japan on this forum and many others. Why don't you wait and see the U.S, and  Others sales before calling it a bomb. And in terms of quality it is a big game. The others have around 80% averages on gamerankings, and this one has Nintendo and Grasshopper involved with developement.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.

It sold on track with the Fatal Frame games on the PS2 in Japan. I wouldn't call that a bomb. Also I would consider it a Bomb if the game didn't make a profit, and it most likely did/will. Also the game didn't stop selling in Japan. As for Metroid Prime3, the series has been in a Decline in Japan since its beginning, and also sold on track with the other games.

It sold on track with the Fatal Frame games on the PS2. I wouldn't call that a bomb. Also I would consider it a Bomb if the game didn't make a profit, and it most likely did/will.

 

I'm going out on a limb here, and assume that Tecmo isn't composed of masochist businessmen.

After three games (or even two) which sold about the same, you'd think they'd stop releasing it in Japan if they weren't making a profit vs the cost of making that version...

I would also like to Add that neither tecmo, or nintendo thought it would sell too much more based off of the shipment numbers.

We all know that Retro Studios and Nintendo care that MP3 sold low in Japan (just like the other two).  It's not like it sold more than a million copies worldwide.  Fatal Frame 4 will be judged by its worldwide success just as any other game released worldwide.
