As the title suggests, I have not played either and fancy one of them, they are both going cheap, around £5.

What is the better game?  Maverick Hunter X or Powered Up?

Any ideas?

While X is the better game.. Powered Up has custom levels and stuff.. so go for powered up..

Nope, X is IMO far the superior version... Powerd Up.... well I dont like the style of it at all... X is the real MM to go for the PSP ( tough looking at the ratings it would seem that Powered Up has a bit higher grades... ).

For £5 each why not get both?

X is a better game.. (powered up is still very good no mistake in that..) but Powered Up is the superior version.. X is just a remake.. while Powered up is a remake+ : plus a completely different remix of the game complete with two new stages and bosses, plus 100 special challenge stages, plus unlockable content, plus an incredibly level editor that allows the creation of user-made stages that can be shared online. plus special downloads from Capcom. Oh, and remixed music...

I know that but to be honest Powerd Ups kiddy/retro look couldent convince me to play it much :?

I enjoyed Maverick Hunter X more... but that's because I loved Mega Man X. Powered up was a neat little title, but I didn't enjoy the character design. It made it seem like Mega Man was taking up the entire screen with his gigantic head.
