Forums - Sony - Cause of Sony's big dropoff in US sales for the PS3?

Do you guys think it's dropped off because there is now a shortage of consoles with them getting ready for the new 80's? Or is it more like there is a lul after the MGS4 rush? I would imagine that the sales might be like this for a little while if they are trying to get rid of all the older SKU's before introducing the new and only PS3 option.

Considering the person that runs the site said it was from a massive shortage, we best go with that.

And I agree, sales should remain unstable until the new SKU arrives and has ample stock.

It is just stock issues

I Think Sony See The Sales Drop And is ready for the New 80gb Ps3 to Release Soon

It's definitely primarily due to a stock shortage. Sony is slowing down production of the 40GB models so as to introduce the new 80GB models. However, the 80GB models aren't coming until September so it's going to be a long month for Sony trying to meet the consumer demand while phasing out all the remaining 40GBs before the 80GBs hit.

In short-term, things are looking up for Sony's sales this week. Retailers just got new shipments of the 80GB MGS4 bundles and I think we all know that those are going to sellout quickly so I expect that PS3 sales will see a bit of an increase this week before falling back down due to shortages.

...and selling like hotcakes.

not the worlds greatest indicator, but the MGS4 bundle is #2 currently on the Amazon bestsellers list

And they still have stock apparently so the shipment must have been pretty large
