40 million at the end of 09 doesn't sound so absurd.

| CrazzyMan said: 40 mln. PS3 is pessimistic. 45 mln. PS3 is reasonable. 50 mln. PS3 is optimistic. Come on, it will be 3rd PS3 year, we will get A LOT of GREAT Games, since 2-3 years for developement is enough for many games.) |
Releasing many games that you think are great doesn't translate into console sales. Do you think Wii Fit or Wii Sports are great games? Because they've been selling tons of consoles.
As for PS3 hitting 40mil, I don't doubt it's possible. My guess is it'd be just short though, maybe 38mil.
I honestly believe that the only way that this will happen is if people start purchasing the machine just for the Blue Ray player. I have a couple of Non-gamer friends that have a PS3 and the only thing they use it for is to play Blue Ray movies. It is one of the nicer Blue Ray players out there and the price is right compared to other players of its quality.

end of 2009 PS3 23m 360:30m Wii 45m I think some of you are forgetting thats we are halfway through with 2008. |
We're halfway through 2008, calendar-wise, but it's unlikely to follow the same trend sales-wise. Are you forgetting the Christmas season?

If that is true then the PS3 price would drop. But I doubt there would be a Blu Ray player going for $200 in the near future.

Here is a Blu-ray player for $279 at Best Buy.

Yes, it is Insignia brand, but that won't matter to a lot of buyers. I would say that a $200 Blu-ray player by Christmas isn't just possible, but likely.
Also, it *has* to be cheaper to produce a standalone Blu-ray player than a high-end gaming console with a Blu-ray player built in. I can't imagine the red bath Sony would take if they actually dropped the PS3 to $200 by Christmas.

Most likely wont happen but is possible. I feel it will end the year around 35 Million just ahead of the 360 by a million or two...
Former something....

Wii should be over 70 million by end of December 2009. X360 will be just over 35 million consoles. PS3 in front of X360 by around 5 million consoles by end of 2009. This sounds reasonable to me. *Fixed: adjusted X360 and Wii estimates. Up by 5 million consoles on original estimates. I am sticking with 40 million PS3 consoles by the end of 2009. I was so tempted to state that PS3 would of reached 50 million consoles by end of 2009 as my thread. |
ive already made this prediction "ps3 to be at 40million end of 2009"
you are absolutly right, i think thats very feasable.
ps3 has been selling more than 360 with a £100 price difference
ps3 has more going for it in pricing, they could cut the ps3 to £249 which would rocket it up, if somehow ps3 can achive a price point of £199 after 2009 then it will literally take off!
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...
PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk
really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...
i dont think that coul be possible may will be around 30 mil or 32 mil
Many of you have completely forgotten that Sony only plans to ship 10 million for the fiscal year. That means 23 million by march 31, 2009. They aren't going to ship 17 million for the remaining 9 months of 2009.
FY 2008 - 10 million (that's across 12 months)
17 million across the first 9 months of FY 2009?
That's just not going to happen.
