Forums - Nintendo - Wario Land Shake It! Sales discussion.

I don't really think this game was expected to sell a million worldwide.

It's a 2D platformer, with low quality graphics. I'm sure it costs next to nothing to make. It is essentially a handheld game, that they charge you twice the price for.

Other than that, Smooth Moves opened with 65K in Japan, and made 700K.

I see this game legging its way close up to 200K in Japan. That's fairly good - it will probably pass Radiant Dawn, and come close to Tales.

For Europe/Others, it could sell fairly well. Might make a million WW, but might sell 500-600K only.

@Oyvoyvoyv: Uhmm... This game is animated by a professional animation stuido, Production I.G. So I doubt it would be quite as cheap as you think.

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

1 word: RTFA

This could very well be one of those "Cooking Mama" titles.

Maybe its because Wario is wacking off on the cover.

Comapare it to Super Mario Galaxy.

I doubt this costs a lot to make. It's retailing for the same as SMG, that's why I compare it. Not how much it will sell.

It's got to be cheap making a 2D compared to a 3D game, anything else doesn't make sense to me.

Depends. Its cheap to make a bad looking 2D game but the more elaborate the 2D game gets the lower are the advantages. Smooth animations need dozens of images. Its like making a cartoon movie. For a 3D game you simply specify the start point and the end point of all skelletal points and you are done. So the initial investment for 3d is high but you get many things for free you have to do expensively in 2D.

2D is like cartoon movies you can get a really cheap one like anime series or if you want to do it really well you can get a 150m Disney movie.

it'll have great legs, 100k isn't just a possibility, it's a probability in my opinion. Surprised i'm the only one saying this.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

The Japanese market is very fickle right now.
The western markets (US/NA and EU/PAL) are where the focus has to be.
That's why SE went multiplat on FF XIII.
That's why Nintendo probably isn't worry about slow initial sales on Wario.
It will sell better than DK Jungle Blast -- which tracked about the same in Week 1.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

100k+ in Japan is possible , but IMO same is 50k... the Japanese industry went trough way to many changes to be able for anyone to tell :?
