Microsoft would be really stupid to release a handheld.

Theyll have to battle with Nintend, which is incredibly hard in handheld gaming. They won`t have any power in Japan. And they will probably loss even more money. They can just keep developing some DS games, like Rare and maybe other of their 1st parties can do, and get a very good profit from that to try to counter a bit of their lossses of the 360.

There are rumors of a Zune with gaming capabilities. It would try to take down both the IPod and the Game Handheld market, and fail miserably, IMO.

I'll agree that in its current form, a Zune with gaming capaibilities would be as good as the iPod with games... i.e. pathetic.  Could MS produce a decent handheld that could do both?  Maybe.  But I don't see them doing it.

On the other hand, MS has a solid platform for smart cell phones - Windows Mobile.  By leveraging their cell phone platform, combining it with the Zune, and adding gaming, MS could have something worthwhile.  But MS wouldn't be targeting Nintendo or Sony with such a device -- that would be squarely aimed at Apple and the iPhone. 

I agree with HappySqurriel that we'll see MS work with their third parties to develop improved smart phones or see them come out with their own in two years.  And it will be that platform that MS aims at portable gaming.



Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

Don't laugh - the (new) Ngage is about to make a serious splash in the next 12 months. Nokia have learnt from their mistakes, and are putting together a pretty good distribution system.

And of course the "new" Ngage platform runs on all Series 60 Nokia phones (i.e. N70, N73, N80, N90, N93, N95, etc...) and will have at least 100m handsets capable of running the new titles already in the market.

Microsoft won't ever make a handheld.  That's not in their plans for gaming.  They entered gaming to attack Sony.  That's really the only reason.  The PSP is not a threat to their empire so they won't bother attacking it, especially with the DS continuing to outsell it 3 to 1.  Other than that, I would say that list is reasonable.


First off why would they release a ps4? If it will last till 2015, there will be not one single reason to release a ps4 by 2010 if there is tell me why?

 Hm... this is new to me. Explain. Are you saying that the "new" Ngage is really just a software addition to existing cell phones to make them play games?

Meh, I see it making it to 2010, though I wouldn't be surprised to see it abandoned for a PS4 in 2009.  They want money and the PS3 isn't making money.  It all depends on how it sells after a price drop.
