I can't speak for the PSN players, but the Live players are up to par. I've been playing Soul Calibur for years (I'm not exceptional, but definitely can beat any button mashers) and I'm only doing so-so in my ranked matches. Yesterday i was fighting an Afro Samurai version of Mitsurugi and I broke all of his armor till he was only in underwear, but still the guy I was playing against was good enough to come back and end up beating me.

More or less. I just started on Soulcal and so far I have 5 wins 2 loss. There are a lot of newbs like me, for sure, but they have no idea how to get good combos. Just mash buttons.

I tend to see SC as about doing the right things at the right time than just amassing combos. I think anyone would find it difficult to even pull of a 5-hit combo in the game because it is possible to turn continuously in the air  and on the ground unlike say...tekken.

Doing things at the right time involves doing combos. Doing 1 attack over and over is called cheap, but amassing combos is what the game is about. I hardly believe your better then most people if you say they are unneccesary...

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

soul caliber, is a button mashing game, in fact reviews also said so. in that a shyte player could just mash the buttons and win matches

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Ahh but an unskilled player is much less likely to block, and not blocking when I play Asteroth means your about to swim ^_^ I've got range and knockback, the n0obs aren't a threat most of the time ;)

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

ctually, I think SC is one of the easier fighters. Its the easiest one I know of. I can't think of any other fighter where you can win by just tapping square and triangle.

I actually almost got bested by a noob who was doing just that because he was way faster than me and I rarely block in SC. It was pretty hard to GI as well due to the slight lag but it seems like the easiest way to victory is full unending assault and thats my specialty. I find it hard to defend against people I haven't figured out.

Gee, I think I found your problem and bolded it for you.  Don't complain about a game being easy because noobs can beat you if you don't bother to use the most basic of gameplay elements like 'block'.

Now, Soul Calibur is more accessible than a lot of games, which I think is great, but a skilled player who uses the full spectrum of abilities available to them (including block) can beat a button mashing newb any day.

I mastered mitsurugi's (my fav character) style through SC2. In that game, his best weapon (the damascus sword) had a side effect where you couldn't block.  While I was mastering my mitsurugi, I was using that sword due to its extremely high attack and defense. I've never recovered from that lol. I usually utilize the 8-way run to dodge attacks and I'm almost always the one doing most of the attacking anyway

I wish we could play each other. My style involves getting a character to fall down by sweeping/throwing or any other means then causing them hell to get back in the action thereafter...

i really don't care for fighting games but this one really pushs my buttons b/c no matter how good you might get a new player can still come along and get you by just mashing buttons and stumbling on the right move at the right time

damn....I must SUPER suck then.....cause I constantly get my ass beat on PSN

I wish people would stop using the punch or kick button in fighting games, heck even the block button... you know what I wish people would just put the controller down when I played.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
