It's highly unlikely the PS3 will ever overtake the 360 in NA. It's also highly unlikely the 360 will finish ahead of the PS3 WW at the end of this gen. My take is, if anything, this shows that the 360 is not doing too well because, despite PS3 shortages and a 360 price drop, the 360 STILL struggles to outsell the PS3 WW. I'm not trying to be a fanboy, but that's how I see it.

I think the holiday season will be good to the PS3 with tons of things like home and little big planet expanding the user base. On top of that of course there are the big action game releases. I heard a rumor that god of war might be 2008 (Amazon dates) ditto for FFXIII vs so who knows.

Either way there is just nothing coming down the pipe for the 360 really, especially if you don' include games that will be better on the PC in a few months (gears of war 2, probably with more added content the 360 couldn't handle, ditto for fable 2.

people will look back in 5 years time and say to themselves 'did i really think the 360 was going to outsell the ps3 this generation? i must have been stupid back then'! because in 5 years time the ps3 is going to be way WAY WAYYY!! ahead of the 360.

Look at history. The PS3 has no chance of taking 2nd place in America, and a two week drop in sales will not effect the outcome AT ALL.

Take a look at the 2nd place consoles for the last 2 generations:

Nintendo 64---

America: 2nd place

PAL: 2nd place

Japan: 3rd place

Xbox---

America: 2nd place

PAL: 2nd place

Japan: 3rd place

The PS3 is following the same trend, except this time it will be last in America instead of Japan like the previous 2 second place consoles.

If you're talking about worldwide, it will have little effect. Sony will ship huge amounts of PS3s and PSPs for the holiday season, and that's the most important time of the year. A couple weeks of supply problems won't change a thing.

Everything will come back to normal after the 80 GB is introduced.

The PS3 will not surpass the 360 in NA. I suspect the PS3 will finally surpass the 360 WW by 2010. This WW victory for MS will be short-lived.

Well at least through August you will see the same results unless Sony gets those 80GB units on the street early. Next week in addition to the 20GB 360's at 299 you will have 60GB units at 350. Some people on the fence about the lack of space will jump in whereas before they didnt want to spend $100 more for the Elite.

Then fall happens and MS certainly will have another bundle and some kind of price adjustment as well. At the very least the Elite needs to be reduced in price. Why? Well come this fall an Arcade plus 120GB drive will cost $430 while an Elite will cost $449 unless price is adjusted. In other words better deal is not to get Elite.

360 has better fall lineup as well.

i dont think it will be 2010 but early 2009. this year ps3 could easily close the gap to 3 million, especially during the november and december and i also see the ps3 speeding up and gaining more momentum! while the 360 is going to slow down after the release of gears of war 2, there really is nothing left! hell that is the only game im going to buy this year for my 360. i think 2009 will be microsofts worst year.

who knows what will happen! remember this gen has only just started and there is a long time left!
