I was under the assumption that the total for Others (4M) was derived from the sales data of the individual titles in game database, but it's not.

Woah...nvm, they changed it.
Anyways, the number on the weekly charts only counts when they have weekly data. All these games with 500k listed but no week to week data aren't counted in that total.

As accurate as the software sales for every other console are

Yes it does. If you search for all PSP games in all regions Crisis Core comes up first, and it's listed as having sales of 1.53M. If you change the filter to PAL and search it comes up again with a sales total of 0.19M. If you click on it, it shows the breakdown of 0.79 for Japan, 0.55 for NA, and 0.19 for Others.

Well we only have others data (weekly) for PSP since September 8th 2007. So that is 2 years of no SW data.

Thanks, That's what I wanted to know. I thought that total figure was taken from the sum of the sales data in the game database.

I like this answer. It is the same answer when its:
Why are they undertracking 360 sales in Others?
How come no games sold PS3 others in?
and my Favorite:
Why do all the Mods hate "Y" Console.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
Yes, the PSP is hideously under-tracked in Others, as if the system doesn't even exist.
It would be nice to know the actual amount of software it has sold in "Others" to make accurate claims of sales, tie ration, etc.

Well Sony gives software data each quarter. So if someone wanted to find all the games with no Japan/America data, make some allowances for those, and then assume the rest of the data is fairly accurate. Subtract that amount from the total and we could get an idea of SW sales in others. It would obviously be very rough, but we could see where it stands in relation to Japan and NA. Granted it doesn't account for games sitting on shelves, it would give an idea. Or if Sony gives regional breakdowns it would be a whole lot easier lol.

Its actually not that hard . When total PSP software shipment was at 110 million there where almost 19 million in Japan and almost 50 million in the US . Now ioi stated that in Ohers software sales should be overall similar to the US , so yeah there remains over 40 million games from that 110 , so if you say that roughly 50 million games where sold to date in Others than you are pretty much correct ;)
PSP software sales are undertracked because unfortunatly games dont apear to often in the top 200 , and only a couple of dozen PSP games are tracked on a weekly basis for Others . But if you look at the sales of the GTA games and a couple of other bigger games you will see the averege sales pattern compared to the US :)
