Actual that 3.42m and 6.42m are for the first quarter (Apr-June) alone.

The 5.93m and 6.53m are LTD numbers.

Wii Fit had many sales prior to April 2008 since it launched in Japan around December 2007.

Are you sure? The article says

"while Wii Fit's been a media darling, and has captured Nintendo a ton of good press with morning television crowd, it's sold "only" 3.42 million units worldwide since launch."

I'm 100% positive as I'm taking the values directly from Nintendo's corporate report.

How many units does Nintendo state Wiifit sold?

This is all I'll say:

Cooling off? Yeah... Still selling really well? Yep.

I think everything is down in japan except PSP currently. I will just wait till Xmas to see if they can take it back up.

Who will be the first to say supply shortages? We PS3 fans have used it all day, only fair the wii crew uses it

First they have to be in denial then only they will accept it just like PS3 fans.

Is Japan known for widespread software piracy? DS software has taken a huge hit.

Looks like Kotaku made a mistake. Here is another article:

"Nintendo sold 5.2 million Wii machines worldwide during the quarter -- 1.7 million than for the same period last year. It also sold 3.4 million "Wii Fit" games and 6.4 million "Mario Kart Wii" games."

Those figures are just for the previous quarter.

I don't think anyone is denial about the DS being saturated in Japan and the overall console market being weak. If the Wii is dead in Japan, then the PS3 and 360 are dead, cremated with ashes being thrown in the Pacific Ocean.

That's the verification I was looking for.

Those numbers make sense then.

Imagine that -- Kotaku getting something wrong!
