You're right though - even though translation takes a long time, most major non-Nintendo games come out only days apart.

 

 

It's just a matter of proper planning... There's no reason why the bulk of the translation tasks have to wait until the game is finished.

If you ask me, I think the reason is that Nintendo's European subsidiary sucks. A very poor subsidiary for such a high-profile company.

It shouldn't be that surprising considering the territories within the Europe/Other regions has more than 10x the population haha.



Good for Nintendo actually. Europe was their weakest market if you take into account the population.

Maybe its that guy from NOE's fault, the one who said a hard drive were geeks and otakus. I guess Smash wasn't worth a timely release either. I'm aware of the other languages, but 3 months?

1. All those different language versions need to be tested exhaustively for bugs and they only have so many testers, programmers, etc. to manage this feat.

2. All these different territorries have different marketing/advertising schedules so that games aren't cannibalizing one another and they aren't going up against the wrong product or coming at the wrong time of year.

3. All these territories need copies of the game and they take time to manufacture, box, ship, stock, etc. It's not like you wave a magic wand you have 5 million copies of a title that is expected to sell at least that much.

A lot of you seem to think it's some sort of conspiracy on the part of NCL, NOA and NOE (or insert company that you want to blame for delays here) for why a particular game comes out a at a particular time rather than simply realizing there are all manner of other issues involved other that do not include incompetence or malice.




@exdinguy: That's all very pretty and logical, but it's still not a good enough explanation for massive delays.

As I said, many of those tasks can be made in parallel with the game's development. It just requires proper planning and cooperation between developers and subsidiaries.

Actually Americas has a bigger population than Europe: 906m Vs 731m according to Wikipedia.

It's all "pretty" (huh?) and "logical" because it also has the virtue of being true and accurate--just because you want to believe it's all down to incompetence doesn't make it so. Basically, your argument (such as it is) belies a profound ignorance of so many facets of product development, supply chains, financial concerns, market pressures, promotional campaigns, etc., etc. that it's hard to take you seriously. You appear to seriously believe there can't possibly be a valid, array, of reasons why game releases are, typically, staggered across territories and ascribe it all to Nintendo being incapable of properly managing their product line.

All of these arguments also apply to Microsoft & Sony, but they seem to do a far better job in this regard than Nintendo, and SCEE probably translate to a lot more languages than NoE do too.

This is an area NoE could certainly improve on. We live in a global world, global releases should be the norm nowadays.
