just to buy some over hyped game in a shrinking market

LOL I think you do not understand the difference between absolute and relative. The HD console market is not shrinking but increasing fast. That Nintendo is increasing its market faster doesn't change anything. And until we have seen a high production quality, mature sandbox game do fantastic on the Wii its marketshare is pretty irrelevant.

Even if it is growing, it'll cap far faster than Wii's market - If I had to guess, I'd say the HD market will stop expanding roughly at the 50 million mark, if it even gets that far.

And I'd also like to know what you define as a "mature" game. GTA games are more "teen" than anything else, IMO.

HD demand will not cap unless console technology regresses next generation. It's standard definition technology that will be obselete in 10 years, not high definition.

Not going to happen.

Microsoft has its hands full covering their core business. Their getting passed on all sides there. They're not going to do a take-over for a department that just this year made its first profits.
Besides that, the costs can never be recoverd by putting TT's games only on 360. You have to remember that buying a publisher to become a first party will decrease the software sales dramatically. And since GTA4 is already out the door, the main competitive edge is gone as well.

Remember one thing, Microsoft made clear more than a decade ago that they intend to get their products "right" by version 3. They put out a product, and they have a vision, and they intend to get it on the mark to be just right and profitable in its 3rd iteration. This purchase would position them perfectly for the next generation. It would give them a strong hand now, and a HUGE boost for the X-box 3. Having GTA5 be exclusive would boost the xbox brand as much as Halo... And likely give it much greater inroads into Sony's diehards.

This wont happen.

With the way market is going casual and family games will be all the rage and microsoft needs to be concentrate on. Besides Microsoft has Halo and Gears of war (I dont see them letting this license go) exclusive which are the same demographic. They should be fine with GTA being multiplat and maybe paying for an exclusive here and there.

But the amount of fanboy tears in this thread is hilarious! Rationale seems to go out the window when your favorite franchise could get bought out!

Anyone whose favorite franchise is GTA (especially after IV) deserves to be in tears.

Don't get me wrong, GTA will still go on to sell millions, but the creativity is gone.

I think freelance "analysts" are funny. The HD market will only get going in earnest when both 360 and PS3 are available (in good versions) for ~250$. You can be sure it will not "cap" and definitely not before the Wii.

I think GTA4 had some nice writing, cool characters and enough satire for a "mature" stamp. Did you play it?

That's all well and good, but a take-over has to be approved by the shareholders and since a TT first party won't help solve the problems Microsoft is having in its core business AND the deal won't ever make Microsoft money it won't be approved. It's that simple.

Everyone has seen how much consoles GTA sold, sure an exclusive one would have sold some consoles, but not anywhere close to being worth 2.5 billion investment.

It's not just the amount of consoles that will be sold, but the amount of games sold. They will be the producer and see a sizeable chunk of revenue and profit from the 10 million+ selling franchise. It's also another one-up they will have on their main rival Sony - they have lost the majority of their big exclusives from last generation and simply don't have the money available to buy them back next generation.

Some people may hate Microsoft for throwing their cash around but you can't fault them for their business strategy. Very few companies could make such an impact on the industry nowadays in such a short time.

and that would be to never make a profit from your xbox brand? That strategy.

'Lol mature' indeed. They have to be aggressive to gain market share.

they had it fer a while....but thats not going so good nymore....

Where did this come from?- geez, speculate why don't u! And tomorrow aliens will finally show themselves to us... lesser beings.

Question; Isn't EA and Sony as big as M$?
