No they don't... all three companies report shipped figures.... the difference has been the Wii was constantly selling out so it looked like retail sales were almost the same as consumer sales, but Nintendo have sorted out supply issues in Europe and Japan, and the situation is considerably better in America now too.

Regarding the OP.
This is shipped versus sold as many have said.
Sony very likely shipped more consoles than usual to America because of the 80GB bundle, wheras MS will have shipped extra to Europe for the pricecut, although if VGC sales are close to reality 360 is now overstocked in Europe.

To the TC -- you ignored the fact that PS3 is currently sold out in Europe -- yep sold out.

With the 80gb PS3 replacing the 40gb in the next 2 - 3 days you would expect that SONY didn't ship many units last quarter. This also applies to NA - but is offset by the 80gb MGS4 bundle ...

 I dont know whether you mean the rest of Europe but I can assure you the PS3 is not sold out in the UK at all.

Microsoft probably was able to sell more 360s to retailers than usual in Q1 because of the price drop.

Just to be clear you mean the Apr-Jun period for both companies right?

Microsoft's Apr-June period is actually Q4 for them, but Apr-June is Q1 for Sony

So do you get paid to slobber all over sony or is it that you just enjoy waiting 5 years between games. I guess with the amount of cg trailers sony puts out its enough to keep anyone entertained ;)

MS has you guys waiting just aslong for games, Splinter cell, Alan Wake, Huxley, Halo Wars.  These games have been touted for over two years now.  Plus whatever other games they show or announce then never bring to market.

Oh I agree I think Alan Wake has taken way too long and they announced it too early deflating the hype, although I disagree about Halo Wars. On the other hand I'm not the one touting the hidden power of my console, claiming its as capable as todays cutting edge computers or claiming sales for my console are going to explode and surpass the wii.

 50% decrease over last year.... thats good..... you know spider-man 3 was the biggest (or second) biggest movie of the year and went on to make amost a billion dollars? of course there will be a decrease...... fact is they still made money.....

This fails for a bunch of reasons.

Comparing shipped to sold makes no sense, especially when the sold are both estimates (NPD, MC/FAM) and are not 100% accurate, where as the shipped numbers are 100% accurate.

Besides Microsoft has admitted they had issues in Jan-March supplying 360 so their channels must have been pretty empty at the beginning of April...

Don't forget that Sony is trying to clear the channels before introducing the new 80Gb model so it all makes a lot of sense..
