Forums - Gaming - Wiimote VS sixaxis Comparison at nintendowiifanboy

This article below is the best comparison i have seen of the Sixaxis and Wiimote the author who is a gifted programmer has also inadvertantly predicted the "motion plus" attachment for the Wiimote in this article written well before the motion plus peripheral ever appeared - he should be getting royalties from nintendo who have clearly ripped his idea off (adding some gyros to the wiimote) !

And this guy has managed to get the PS3 Sixaxis yaw gyro working in a PC game in one weekend ! - the retards at Sony computer entertainment still have not managed to work it out after ~2 years and they built the controller ! - I just downloaded and played the free game demo "echochrome" and the motion sensing in this does not use the yaw gyro instead they use accelerometer data instead of the gyro - these people who write this crap should go back to primary school to learn some basic maths so they can use the gyro data !.

http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/02/12/revolutionary-controller-showdown-round-2/

And of course he confirms a feature many PS3 owners hoped to see "sixaxis cursor pointing" see quote from the linked article ->

"Scripting and testing the mouse controls with yaw made me realize that the SIXAXIS gyro could conceivably be used in conjunction with the accelerometer to control an on-screen pointer, like in many Wii games."

Anyways the info in the article is accurate and explains how the sensing works for those who want to know.

I still find it amazing that 2 years after launch sony dont know how to use thir own motion sensing controller in games - like i have said before the only other reasonable explanation is that sony want to avoid the large number of faulty hardware returns from defective gyros in the Sixaxis controllers out there. - Probably around 2 million defective sixaxis units is a good reason. One day they are gonna have to do it though.

Found the first article from the series though the 2nd part is the most usefull - the first part has nothing of value but here it is anyway -->

Another opinionated comparison with no real value

And the only way the PS3 game resistance can ever be played with a mouse interface is with this splitfish peripheral --> Sony are stupid not to allow mouse input from the start on all games - there is no way they will ever get someome from the PC world to the PS3 without mouse support in FPS games.

They shouldnt support it at all. Then the PC players will not change to PS3.

Well I haven't tried it, but yes kind of... although at least with the zapper you have a specific direction to point in, and if the game has a setting for 1:1 pointing then you basically have a set of sights in the d-pad and 1,2 buttons. I think from what I have heard the main problem with the zapper is games often set motion controls to the nunchuck like shaking it, which doesn't work well when it is held with the remote.

I was kind of of being sasrcastic. LOL. By the way, shaking it for Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles is a pain.

I was thinking that too..

But I suppose you could just hold it on one of its handles. Not like you'd be needing the D-Pad or Analog sticks full time if you're using it to point. I haven't tried it, but I think you'll probably be able to hold it on the right handle and still use the buttons effectively.

Actually holding the Sixaxis/DS3 in one hand like that is surprisingly comfortable.  High Velocity bowling requires this and it's interesting how easy it is to access the the one side of the controllers face/shoulder buttons in this position.

Definitely be interesting to see if any developers learn to fully utilize this capability of these controllers, although based on current developer trends the policy seems to be to underutilize the PS3 Hardware for as long as possible :)
