@freebird4, there are always NPD numbers to prove otherwise.))

Remember last week when I got banned for flaming fanboys? It was because of posts like that. How this site is tolerant of random negative flames, obviously based on how fans want to percieve the numbers for their console....is beyond me.

That said, this topic isn't about NPD, it's about amazon and the PS3 80gb. So, just eversoslightly off topic, imo.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I guess this coming week will be better.

PS3 to surpass X360 WW sales by Q2 2009

ww sales are going to be close this week (ps3vs360)

They were close this week.

Do you think with a shipment of MGS4 80 GB bundles PS3 isn't going to rise? And this being the second week of the 360 price-drop, sales won't decrease?

I predict PS3 > 360 this week by 50k.

Was that prediction for the July 26th numbers or the next week?

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

If there is one thing I've learned by now it's that Amazon.com bestseller list # means squat.

I'm not even 100% sure it's accurate within Amazon (sometimes it lists things on top that are just way out there, almost as if it's more advertising than truth). It also manages to list items on top that are out of stock and hence, are not sold*.

*) Though that could mean people ordered it at that time even though stock had run out. Which doesn't make the list more accurate though because in that scenario actual sales (i.e. when the card gets charged and the product shipped to the consumer) are not based on that chart but on the manufacturers shipping speed of new product.

you are 100% correct.

It's still interesting to follow the trends though even if they don't show nearly the whole picture.

Seeing as how, when Wii's are in stock, it is assumed that demand has fallen, I don't see why everyone is giving the 80gb a pass here, and simply assuming it must have been a monumental shipment. It could just be that they aren't selling through as fast as everyone had hoped. They certainly aren't selling as fast as the Wii or they wouldn't have been in stock for 10 minutes, much less 3 days.

If that were true it wouldn't have stayed at #3 this entire time.

Not so. It's a common belief on this forum that Amazon isn't a good source of demand of a product, but instead only an indication of the availibility.

Even if I were to concede that Amazon was a perfect indication of demand, that would make no difference in the context of my original argument, since when people say the Wii demand has falled because of availability, it still always manages to be in a top spot on Amazon. Therefore, the PS3 should be subject to the same scruitany.

That said, the 80gb is under Wii Fit and above MK:Wii, which has been out for many, many weeks, making the number 3 spot have a very wide range of possibility, assuming it accurately measured demand, seeing as how the Wii is at least 20 times more popular than MK:Wii, which would be a fair assumptions, imo. Where, in that large gap, the PS3 falls, is indeterimable.

bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla

No reason to always be so negative regarding the ps3.' :p

I think that it wont sell as high as some predict though. I hope for good numbers.. but with the 40 gig sold out, well it's a question of how good the numbers will actually be with only the high priced sku on the market.
