Forums - General - Graphics - Any other artists here? (BIG TIME 56K WARNING)

I use the term artist very loosely but I couldnt think of another word.

Anybody here make GFX works or real life arts?

I make 3D GFX works, originally got into modelling for modding then got into a more artistic side of it.

Here is a small selection of my works in no particular order.

Art

Jazz

Impromptu

AColourOrange

Dirty Creature

Tools

Bloom

Cubes .V2 (old)

Chain (old)

Happy Halloween (old)

Smaller Things

Edit: Urghh. Fixt, wish this site took standard image codes though.

Cool, what did you use to make those?

Here are some random Max things I've done (note, some are black and white because they're suppose to be )...

Bah, I hate the formating, click the image to see the whole thing.

I used Wings3D, a 3 MB downloadable largely because its free. Lacks any real power though.

Your pieces are very nice, you seem to have got texturing down to a fine art - its always been one of the areas I struggle. In particular I love the church - you did a very nice job on that.

Your stuff is particularly good for such small poly counts, I dont have to worry about polys in my stuff because its straight up images.

Same as before, just click the image to see the whole thing.

Far shot of a HL2 level showing off the architecture

Couple shots from a Qauke 4 level I did

More Quake 4 small levels

Some Unreal levels

A screen from a HL2 Mod I did (black and white art style with important things in color close to Sin City)

A UT2k4 Mod, one with that church in action

A little something from my 2D game from a few years back

If you want to see more of anything, it can all be seen here .

Thanks, I generally try to stick to low poly models since I'm by no means an artist.  Some textures I can fiddle with Photoshop for a while to make something decent but definately not my string point.   In fact, I only worked in Max because I had, if it were up to me, I'd probably rarely touch it.

And that chuch, I had so many problems with that damn church and putting it in game don't even want to talk about it.  >_>

TBH. I only turned to making art because at the time my models were so poor that nobody would use them in a mod XD.

This was the type of work I was doing around that time

If I could find my way back into modding I think I probably would.

Here's the full version of my finest creation. Jigglypuff combined with Ligier, the Green Sun of Malfeas. Most people aren't geeky enough to recognise both of them. =/

Character modeling is pretty hard (unless you're actually good at it--I'm quite terrible at it) every mod needs someone to make objects and that's probably a good place to start.  From what I hear A LOT of mods done online and not all in person fail because it's just too hard to do something like that through email alone.

If you're just looking for experience in making assetts, that's probably not too bad a thing for you.  Having a completed mod is always preferable but at least you'll get to work on several different styles.  If you're loooking for good links, I can't help you much since I'm really not much of an art person (scripting yes, modeling no) but I'm fairly sure the IGDA forums will have some good resources (though it looks like they're down at the moment).

I've done some cartooning and animation -- started out with 3-D stuff in the late 90's but only finished a couple of short (1 to 3 minute) films. I got burned out doing an internship for a TV pilot and turned my attention elsewhere. I came back to it a few years ago after Flash's audio-synch improved dramatically, and have been sticking with old-fashioned 2-D hand-drawn stuff since then for the sake of productivity (I do humor, mostly, so speed is of the essence.)

Professionally, I've done an animated short for National Lampoon and my written-and-illustrated pieces have appeared in Cracked magazine and The Wittenburg Door. Some of my unofficial (hobby) animation is available on the unpublished page at my website:

All of my writing is linked to from the published page, if anyone cares to check it out. I write a lot better than I draw, just so you know. :)

Wow... some of your stuff is really really good ddobson.
Just.. wow.
