Not really, The Wii is in an entirely different bracket seeing as it has braught in ppl who originally never played games. A few vets went that route but not the vast majority. Majority are still waiting to decide on either a PS3 or 360.

Well I am afraid you are wrong there.

Nintendo's own research found that 90% of Wii owners owned or had owned a 6th gen console, and a further 5% had owned a console before the Wii (ie 5th gen or earlier) This was stated last summer, so we don't have any recent evidence, but the situation will not have turned 180 that's for sure.... at the most my bet is 20% of current Wii owners have never owned a console before (up from 5% last year) and I bet it's more like 10-15%.

Source? Thats wierd becuz that is completely contradictory to GameStop's Reports(you know, that company that has manopolized on selling games in america) And completely contradictory to the kinds of ppl I see come in to my store to buy them. It always seems to be some nice older women lookin to get in shape with some good games. Not calling u a liar, but those numbers are false.

And most 'gamers' I know own a Wii...

Most "Gamers" do NOT own a Wii! The Wii has tapped into a userbase that the other two cannot touch no matter how hard they try. Majority of Wii owners are little kids with no prior system background, and older ppl in 35-50 range trying to get in shape. The sad part is that 60% of Wii owners no longer use them after the first 3 months. These are FACTS!

The 360's userbase range fron pre teens to 25. There will obviously be certain exceptions to the rule seeing as I am 19 and do not own the console. It is a well known fact that ppl in this range tend not to plan for the future but insead live in the "Here and Now". Not to say it is wrong, just flawed.

PS3's user base is between 26-40. These are ppl who were raised on the brand and have hight expectations for it. the later age range are ppl who kinda want to get into gaming yet are more in it for the future proof BluRay. These are also known to be the years when ppl cant help but plan for their future. The Wisest usuerbase by far.

Whoa there sparky.  Show us some links, or resources that you pull up these facts.  Personally, most of the gamers I know have a Wii, and then some also own a 360 or PS3.

There is a certain group of people that are resorting to "Wii doesn't count" now, because they have no other valid reason to understand why people don't see things the way they do and actually choose Wii over another system, or even in addition to another system.  You seem to be in this group.

Their are a number of reasons the ps3 isn't as dominate as the ps2 was.

5: A stronger xbox brand this gen.
Not Really, It just got here first. Oh, and they are a WHOLE lot more agressive than last time.

6: Prohibitive cost of development. Its pretty simple, if your making an hd game since the 360 has a larger install base and the games going to cost a lot to develop you might aswell make it multi-platform.
THE SYSTEM DOES NOT HAVE A SIGNIFICANTLY LARGER INSTALL ANYMORE! A few Mill more that a console that is already closee to like a 15mil mark is not significant enough to warrent going MultiPlat. That is the scape goat excuse for their actions. The PS3 and 360 sales are a mere 4-6mill away from each other. The reason for majority of this gen going Multi is Microsofts money, thats it. Think about it, y did alot of games go multiplat last gen if the Xbox camp was only at 13mil while the PS2 was at like 140mill?

9: Lack of any great number of games that appeal to the Japanese

I think u have mixed PS3 up with 360. They are the ones who should fear for dear life in Japan. Their install there is less than abismal.

2.- Great finally somebody is able to read minds, tell us how did you get that conclusion???

5.- The games on the 360 (like GeoW, Halo, GTA4, CoD, FFXIII) all of those make a strong brand name...

6.-Yeah I agree the only reason for the devs to jump on multiplat is because MS buys the titles, this had nothing to do with making money selling games on a smaller install base with high cost of development... greedy bastards...

9.-Look for the game sales, and check the top 5 on the PS3, then check the top 5 on Wii, you can do the same for the DS and PSP...

If you don't work at McDonalds and you do actually work there - then I think you still have problems.

Ok.........What does McD's have to do with anything. And no, I dont work there, as I stated before I work at f***** GameStop, can u not read? And even if I did make this up (but i didnt) as u would like to believe, it does not change the overal moral of the story. People tend to buy 360 becuz thats what everyone else did. I KNOW this becuz I have gone through countless conversations with customers over these kinda topics, such can be expected while working at GAMESTOP! And being that as it is I think I probably know a little more than YOU about these sort of things.

Fact of the matter is, leaving all bias aside, while comparing the two consoles ppl tend to see a price and thats all. The dont seem to ever factor in what it takes to supply a gaming hobby of today. Games, acc.,Online Userbase, Functionality, Future Lifespan. After talking it over with CoWorkers, Friends, Customers I have gotten them to realize that the warrent of their purchase might not have been the best in the long run. I mean to say, not that the 360 is TERRIBLE or anything, its just not a wise investment while the PS3 has proven itself to be time and time again. I mean, ask youself honestly, who do you think is gonna still be here in like 5 years, the PS3 or 360?

Word of advice: If you want to persuade someone of something, it helps to not use words like "becuz," "ppl," and "youself."

Also, working at Gamestop doesn't make you some sort of authority-guru on gaming. I've met Gamestop employees who couldn't tell a copy of Halo from their own foot.

I always like this one.  Well, if the trend follows the historical norm, it'll be PS4 and 720.  But, Ok, I get ya, this gen the overpriced systems plan on a 10 year lifespan.

Even at that, my 360 will still be in my entertainment center, it won't vanish or anything.  And enough games are out on it right now, to keep me very happy until the next gen comes along.

Not that there's anything wrong with the PS3.  Maybe it only having 1 exclusive I really want is a factor for me personally.  (I have to say, Warhawk looks sweet) But don't tell me I got my 360 because I don't know anything.

Thank you kind sir for proving that the average consumer still doesnt know what hes talking about yet again.....

xbox was out for what, all but 4-5 years before it caught the swift AXE! Xbox had begun to loose support before the war was even over, same with the cube. The second the 360 came out support for the prior came to a screeching halt. The Xbox never even had a chance to accumalate a selection of games that could rival the titan that was PS2. The PS2 on the other hand is still going relatively strong seeing as in certain areas it is outselling THE NEXT GEN CONSOLES! The reason y many dont see this becuz they dont put them in the reports anymore cuz society has moved on. The PS2 is going on its 8th-9th yr with little resistance. Is believing the PS3 will do the same that hard?

And I see where u are going with ur second statement which is completely valid. But what I am saying is .....

PS3=10 year cycle($600)

Xbox360=4-5 yr cycle($350)

Xbox720=4-5 yr cycle($400?)

THe NOW-

PS3=superior hardware yet inferior library for right now

360=superior library yet inferior(REALLY) hardware outdated even now.

The THEN-

PS3=current gen hardware and vastly superior library by the time of 720's conception

720=stable(if not superior)hardware but inferior library

Total Cost of PS3 in a 10yr plan=600

Total Cost of 360/720 in a 10 yr life span=750?????

Id rather pay now than later....

I think it is pretty obvious from the sales.

For America this is what generation 6 looked like in July 2003

ConsoleMonthlyTotal
486,014 21,045,372
201,923 6,282,517
167,065 4,695,535

That's a total of 32,023,424 home consoles.

This is what 7th gen looks like in July 2008

ConsoleMonthlyTotal
400,810 12,956,112
202,189 11,985,140
194,876 5,490,628

A total of 30,431,880 consoles.

Part of the reason it is lower than last generation is because the popular console launched later, but if you are trying to say that most of the current Wii userbase is totally new to gaming then then last generations gamers must have all emigrated or something.

The sales show that the majority of Wii owners have owned a previous console.... if what you say is true and they haven't owned a console before, then that means not much more than 18 million gamers have bought a console so far, which is a huge gaming recession.

Don't give any bull about people "sitting on the fence" between PS3 and 360 either, gamers don't wait so long to decide on their purcchase, they would likely have bought a 360 before the PS3 even released, and would have already bought a PS3.

You really need to get over your bias as you're not a Sony representative, you're a gamestop employee and you sell all 3 consoles. To act in a biased manner compromises your usefulness to the customers you serve.

Yeah... no.

If you really think the PS3 is going to have a 10 year life cycle, then you're fooling yourself. Eventually it'll reach the point of the Gamecube, where the only company developing exclusives for it is the first party.

Just so, the X360 is not going to have a 5-year life cycle. All three companies have expressed their desire to see this generation last longer this time around, and MS learned their lesson the hard way with the Xbox's abbreviated lifespan.

Third, the PS3's hardware is not superior to the 360's.

Finally, stop posting. Please.

Most people that don't buy a PS3 buy a Wii not a 360.

I am certainly not in that particular group. I just tell it like it is. I completely admit that the Wii is SPANKIN 360 and PS3 both in a fair match. Yet this does not change the fact that the Wii is very much a "FAD" for lack of a better term. It is extremely fun for all of two seconds for "MOST". Some cant get enough of it, yet still many find it gimmicky after their biggest titles have past.
