Forums - Gaming - Play mag uk reviews Soul calibur 4 gives 9.4 ps3 version better.

TalkPlayStation.com writes:"The Playstation 3 version of Namco Bandai's fighting em up, Soul Calibur 4 doesn't support trophies. It has an in-game achievement system called required honor. Basically when you unlock something, it will pop up on the screen notifying you that you've unlocked what you've just achieved. To view the achievement you need to head over to the meseum at the battle records.

Also, there is no support for custom in-game music."

Vader/Yoda coming to both versions of the game. No rumble support.

So, with the PS3 version you get:

1. Arguably better controls

2. Slightly better load times until the dashboard update

3. Temporary Vader exclusivity

4. No Yoda at launch

5. No rumble

6. No trophies

7. No in game music

SoulCalibur IV - A, B+, B+
Good: Extreme fun and value
Bad: Darth Vader is pretty lame

So which version is better, again?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

I dont know a single thing about this games features or not all of the features but as far as no Yoda goes I could care less vadar is alot better.

I don't know which one is better.

But someone mentioned further up this page to wait for the Gamespot\IGN reviews. Which is a good idea.

However I've noticed that IGN have recently taken the position of giving PS3\360 games the same fucking score! Even when one is better than the other in an attempt to silence fanboys and get more money from advertising. (A lot of people were "boycotting" their sites apparently...)

There have been a few games as of late getting the same score when the game has been better on the 360, not vastly better, but normally like improved AA versus no AA on the PS3.

I'm not saying its always like this, there has been the reverse in the some cases.

I'm just saying you can't really trust any site these days, I'm inclined to give Gamespots opinions the most weight (Yes I know their history, but its not relevent when it comes to bias\game comparison, that was for actual review scores)

I find Gamespot at least DO SAY IF THERE IS A DIFFERENCE.

Poxy IGN!...But gamespot takes ages for their reviews!

Trophies would be nice if there but no big loss since there isnt. That wouldnt influence me anyway. Same with rumble.

And in game music I wouldn't even use if I had it. Seriously.

It's been confirmed, or so says N4G, that both characters will be available for download on both consoles, and the update is already ready to go. :P

I mentioned that in my post where I listed the things that are being left out of the PS3 version.

The most notable is rumble, which I assume would have been relatively easy since the 360 version supports rumble, of course, and bascially the games are both PC ports. Is rumble hard to impliment on the PS3?

I differ. Rumble to me is no big loss, but in game music is monumental in a grinding type game such as Burnout of Soul Calibur where the single player experience can be augmented with custom soundtracks while not actually having to worry about a story being interrupted.

Also, I love achievements, and trophies(they are basically the same thing) and I find it very dissapointing that new games aren't fully integrating them. That's why I've said the trophy system won't be as good as achievements(though it was a welcome edition) because so few early games support them, developers will use it as an excuse to not support them in the future. Sony should make trophy support mandatory. Period.

It's a lot easier to not care about Darth Vader then it is to not care about achievements, rumble, and soundtracks. Especially when EGM and 1up have both said that Vader sucks, and is actually a missed opportunity in the game, along with the confirmation that both characters will be available for play eventually, anyway, on all systems.
