The only reason I bought an XBOX 360 - and still the only reason I play it - is because most of my friends did. And because of Halo 3 - which was a huge mistake because the game was a massive letdown. Initially, I waited and bought a PS3 - I knew, before all of this started, based solely on development time, that the PS3 would be a much more stable machine. Boy was I right.
Would I buy one again? Maybe. I bought an Elite when they came out, I've never had RROD - so the technical problems don't bother me much. Knowing what I know now, I would have felt much better about my decision to delay buying a 360 in light of the whole RROD fiasco, as none of my friends have sent their 360's in less than 4 times for repairs. One of my friends just got his back after his 7th time.
I'd buy one again, but it would be for the same reason - minus Halo 3. I'd have just skipped buying that game and saved myself some money. The library of games on the 360 doesn't pique my interest a whole lot because I got the system post-Gears era, and had already been deeply into Resistance, so Gears wasn't that special to me. None of the other games really stand out to me, I don't know. I'm not saying PS3 games are vastly superior, but Exclusives vs. Exclusives, the PS3 just has more higher quality games to me. The 360 has some good ones, but I'll take a few great exclusives that I'll thoroughly enjoy playing over a bunch of just good-to-OK ones.
The only strength the 360 has over PS3 in my opinion is that a lot of the multi-plat games run better on the 360, and I play a couple multiplats. Which is good for me, because I bought my 360 to play multiplayer with my friends, and all of the good multiplayer games (besides the one I know everyone will try to correct me on - Gears) seem to be multiplat.
The 360 is just an afterthought for me. Everyone raves about XBL and this and that - I don't get what's so great about being nickle-and-dimed for everything. PS3 is free online, AND Themes and Backgrounds are free. You'd think XBOX themes and such would be free - since you PAY for XBL - and PS3 themes would cost a dollar or two. I dunno..it just seems like 360 follows the MS mantra - make as much money as you can any way you can, even at the expense of your customers. I don't feel like I get that vibe from PS3, but maybe others do.
This is way too long of a post just to say, "Yeah, and I'm glad I waited til I did, but I wouldn't have bought Halo 3." My bad.
