This quote does give some credence to the FFXIII X360 crowd though.

Right.  The quote is sort of implying that they might pick XBOX360 when they consider about porting it *if* MS does a lot better job marketing XBOX in Japan.

As you probably know, XBOX has been doing miserably in Japan, unfortunately.  Some haters call it "shitbox (kuso-bako)" as "eks" sounds similar to "kuso" which means poop.

Would you mind doing this for us more often Omoneru? Could be a great thing that you could do for us regularly. Heck if you would translate the whole article for us I would love you to pieces.

今のところは変更は無いが、PS3用として取り掛かったからといって他にまったく利用できないというわけではない。販売に関してはタイミングを見る。その時点の台数だけでなく、勢いも重要。

From what I understand, it pretty much says they haven't ruled out porting FFXIII to the 360. They say that even though it is being designed specifically with the PS3 in mind, it is not the case that they couldn't utilize everything they've accomplished elsewhere (multiplatform). But, this is a very poor translation on my part, and would like someone who could do a much better job.

I'm Japanese. You're basically right about the translation.

He's saying "Even though there is no change in our original plan (about it being PS3 exclusive) at the moment, it could be ported to other platform (at least theoretically). We'll see when is a good time to do it. (As to which platform) the number of console sold in the market is an important factor (for them to choose which) but the momentum (that console has in the market at any given time) is also important.

Thanks for translating I'll update the original post.

As a basic exercize to demonstrate my point, take major game releases (like MGS, Halo 2 and FF) and calculate the ratio of users who bought these games upon their release; after that calculate the ratio of users who would need to buy these new games in order to match the sales from the previous versions. If I were the CEO of a major corporation I'd be fairly worried about my bottom line if I was releasing a game exclusively for either platform.

highest selling FF game released with a used base of 10 million, they really dont need more then that to sale many millions.

They did say no FF untill april 08

Well, it launched in Japan when the PS2 had a userbase between 4.75 and 6.85 million units sold in Japan and Final Fantasy sold about 2.5 Million units (the next 600,000 units came over time); this would mean that (roughly) 50% of users bought the game ...

In every region Final Fantasy X was released in the PS2 had a larger userbase than the PS3 will likely have worldwide in 2007.

i actually ment FF7, the game is coming no earlier then april 08 PS3 will ahve plenty enough user base by then and the way japanese market has been latley id bet my left nut majority of FF13 sales will come from places other then Japan.

I'd be happy to do it whenever I have time. If an article is long, I probably opt for a summary instead of translate everything, as full translation often takes a lot of time. I'll try to keep an eye on translation requests on this board.

of course the majority of sales will come outside of Japan, it has since FF7. Japan only represents about 1/4 of the world market, and all things equal around 30-40% of sales will probably come from Japan.

I hope your wrong but whatever. Porting isnt that big of a deal to me it just pisses me off when great games like BioShock, Saints Row, Dead Rising, and plenty others stay on one console and dont get ported to another while almost all of the PS3 games are being ported. I wish GeoW was on the PS3 so I could play it. I also wish I had a PS3. Im depressed.

Actually, my understanding is that Dead Rising 2 will be on the PS3. Can someone confirm/deny that? I understood that Dead Rising wasn't ported largely because it was already an older game by the time the PS3 was released and that porting would no longer make enough money to be worthwhile.

I don't think they've made any announcement at all about which console or consoles the game will be on.  The first one kicks major ass so hopefully the sequel gets as wide an audience as possible.

Ya but I remember SE saying something that there most concerned about Japan.

If that's true, SE just grabbed a big ol' gun, loaded it, pointed it at their own foot, and pulled the trigger.

Huh?

Square is shooting themselves in the foot if they're focusing on the Japanese market.

Of course they will focus on the Japanese Market. They are Japanese company, Japan will always come first (There is a reason they have 13 DS games and only 7 PSP games).  That doesn't mean they will ONLY focus on Japan though.  If they just ignored America, that would be shooting themselves in the foot.

I see it this way. Since this game isn't even a consideration to be release prior to April of '08, SE will see what the market is like after this holiday. If the numbers are similar to what I have in my sig, i.e. ps3 half of the 360 WW, I bet we will see a timed exclusive with 360 getting their special version.
