I agree, but you don't do much jumping, period, and that's the big problem with defining it as a platformer: you spend most of your time cruising around in planes, cars, etc. and not running to and fro, making precision jumps, etc.

It looks for all the world to me like a hybrid between Pilotwings and Mario, but the emphasis is most certainly on the former rather than the latter--if this was more balanced (say a 50/50 split) I, for one, would be far more interested and optimistic.

I see your point but, until we get our hands on the game we cannot say what the player will be doing most of the time.  I am pretty sure you will not be flying for most of the game.

The point I am trying to make is that it is like Marble Blast Ultra.  You are just a simple ball, but you are getting around to different platforms by usage of a jump mechanism that is not legs.  Mario would still be Mario if you do not have a visual que for him jumping.  Legs are just another means of transportation.

lol, I'm not questioning that the vehicles can or can't jump--Banjo himself can jump in the game, after all--I'm questioning that it's a platformer as a platformer is defined which it most certainly is not going by every piece of available media.

I do agree that we don't know enough about it (which was my original point as to why it's hard to get hyped for it), but taking the Rare guy at his word, only 20% of the game is actual, traditional, platforming mechanics which gives me even more pause for concern than I had before this thread started really rolling.

Now, obviously, a character/vehicle's lack of feet has no bearing on a game being defined as a platformer--Glover wouldn't be a platformer anymore if that were the case, nor Rocket Robot on Wheels--so if I've given you the impression that that's the crux of my argument, I apologize as it was not my intent.

If people want precision jumps in their platformers, then they are playing the 2D classics, as 3D platformers in general don't compare. Ratchet, Banjo and Jak are a joke

That trailer just reinforced my belief...

It had a rather lame and weird beginning to the trailer and then they showed some random, stupid looking machines...

Seriously, I cannot see the 360 demographic digging the "kiddy" look of Banjo... They will all buy Gears and Fallout and COD5...

This game will flop. That does not mean it wont sell a million, but for a franchise this big, and for the amount of money they have put into this game.... anything less than 2 million is a flop. Kinda a similiar situation as Ninja Gaiden. Big Franchise. Big Budget. Less than 2 million = FLOP

Now if it does recieve steller reviews I might sell around... 2.5 million, and to me, if this game sells that much that will be SHOCKING.

Remember- The largest part of the 360's userbase is testosterone charged 13-20 boy/ young men. That demographic likes things that look cool.

This game would have decent sales potentional on the Wii do to the kid appeal, and females(for some reason I could see girls liking this.. must be Kazooie...) and the fact the Wii has a platformer fanbase (because of SMG)

Ratchet saw sales much worse than expected do to the demographic reasons I just stated. I think the one thing that saved it was the low competition on the PS3 last year. I could see Banjo selling like Ratchet, breaking a million after a while.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

I am a married 23 year old.  I will be buying Banjo.  The look of Banjo is the same as it has always been, lame and wierd would apply to the old games as well if you think the trailer was such.

I seriously doubt NG2 had a budget large enough to require 2 million copies sold.

And a rather nice stereotypical statement about the 360.  Kinda like saying the Wii is mostly for 8-13 year olds, wives, and retired people.

Mario Galaxy (as just the most recent example) has scores of precision running and jumping.
