I think that you aren't understanding that a monopoly is bad if it's held by ANY company:

Actually AT&T's monopoly worked very well.  When it was forced to split during divestiture, it F'd up the whole telecom industry and made it worse for customers in price and service.

I hope you are kidding. The increased competition caused the prices of phone calls (especially long-distance calls) to drop precipitously.

FUnny how M$ have released some of the best games and franchises ever on the xbox/360 and how it takes YEARS for some of the most popular 360 games to appear on PC. Go away.

what? please go look at the PC line-up and shut up. The franchises that are "so great" dont measure up to PC's games.

Id love to play Ninja Gaiden like game on a pc...but I'll have to settle for Devil may cry 4, 6 months later.

This is the point he was making...

Controversial first post!

 bad timing lol

Wow MS fanboys aren't going to like this one haha.

I am confused as to why he is mentioning a MS monopoly. Is he unaware that Nintendo is easily winning this generation and that the other two hardware companies are doing fairly well? This whole premise seems absurd and a waste of time to discuss.

You were -5 years old when it was finalized in 1982? The long distance rates had decreased, that is true. But the local rates rose, and maintenance service suffered. According to any of the older techs in my industry, things got solved far smoother and quicker when it was one company. Today the bickering between the two or three or more providers involved in any situation really extend the resolution of any problems and the cost.

If you can't compete with winner, try at least not to be last one.

Anyway any monopoly is bad. More competition on the market better it is for customers. Also you know what it means when someone have edge on the market?

(Answer: You copy it of course)

Why?Because I hate MS?...Why should I?

Because of the gaming industry? I don't give a damn about all the losses-money thing....

Because of the gaming community?Exactly...

Past 2 generations was Sony's monopoly but we saw a lot of nice games and played them (Such as res evil-gow-ico etc.)

But I don't think it would be same if those generations was MS's monopoly. Why?Because they want Windows to be everything. And they do not want consoles to replace it.As many of the gamers know after a big war of consoles there is always a monopoly. Now we are witnesses of a war going between Sony-MS(I don't count nintendo cuz that's different) do you think in the next generation this war will go again?I don't think so.

In conclusion if MS can ''conquer'' the console gaming such as Sony did in past 2 generations they will not only have all the console gaming but also the pc gaming.Which means 'massive monopoly' and not good for us gamers.(And this could be very end of the console gaming if you like apocalyptic tales....well just a theory:D)

So these are my thoughts.I just wanted to share them with you.You can disagree if you want. And sorry for bad english...

lol you are good real good... I think exactly if not worst of Sony for the gaming industry.... since they are here we've seen more shitty games than ever..... the ratio 80% bad games on PS2 is so depressing..... well my point of view.... now MS so far is coming with a good chunk of good games... compare to what sony ever did... I think MS will bring more good to the industry than sony ever did... if I had to kick one out and bring one in I'd kick sony any day and bring sega back.... even if MS wasn't there.... it's simple I stoped playing video games as soon as sony entered the market and sega stoped the DC... it's telling you how much I despise what they have done to the industry.... and honestly looking back I don't feel i missed anything compare to what VG was before Sony and what it is without Sony as only alternative (nintendo N64 wasn't my cup of tea beside goldeneye and starfox and well GC we all know what happened) so i'm glad MS is there we finally have a competitive interesting market... and that's certainly not thanks to Sony...

Sony pushed sega out of the market...which was a much superior gaming company at the time.

Where were you then with rants like this?

Microsoft shouldn't win because you hate it. What a well reasoned argument.

Isn't that every fanboy's arguement.  Alot of yall here need to look in the mirror every now and then.  Not surprising though the people that attacked this post and some who even trashed Ninty and Sony and simply protected MS.  I mean there's no rhyme or reason for fanboys... there just here unfortunately.

About the post I'm not going to even bother.  Monopolies are bad in general and they need to be controlled.  The only thing as a consumer that you need to understand is that competition is your best friend.
