Forums - Gaming - Is exclusive DLC really that important?

For me, yeah. I like a game, and I want to extend my playing experience. I have no prob dropping loot on extra content. I did with Test Drive Unlimited, Oblivion, Mass Effect and will be with GTA IV. I definitely enjoy the extra content and will continue to buy it.

No, not at all.

I don't buy a game based off of future promises, and not even telling me what it is!

This "Exclusive Episodic Content" thing with these games is so annoying. I mean, no one can tell me what the Exclusive Episodic Content" is for GTA IV. I mean, no one knows what it is.

It's so stupid.

No, I feel that DLC is good but is not a deal breaker for me. Most of the add-on's to some games are not even worth the time.

Don't get me wrong some games have awesome content but they are rare.

Now Playing: Crysis 2

Last Finished: BulletStorm

Online IDs: PSN: computermaximus, XBL: computermaximus

DLC is important to me.

Most other people, not so much.

but isn't 50 mil a bit too extreme just to get fence sitters about gta 4 to their side?

Honestly, I think it depends on how significant the DLC turns out to be. If The Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine from Elder Scrolls Oblivion were exclusive to 360, do you think it would have swayed decisions? I personally do. For those informed about it, I think it would have been a no brainer. This GTA IV DLC, if significant enough and advertised correctly, could give the 360 version longer legs. Imagine also if when it's ready for release, Take Two has it worked out with Microsoft to drop the price to $39.99 and offer a Game of the Year Edition with the DLC on the disc itself. It's all hypothetical though since no one knows what the DLC really is.

Meh, I'm indifferent to DLC. It won't induce me to buy a game and my opinion is that if it's on in the core game, it's not worth me going through the trouble to get it.  I equate it with the Annuals for Comic Books.

I should clarify:

Exclusive DLC is pretty good as long as you know what it is. It's that kind of DLC that no one wants to say what it is that isn't good.

Exclusive DLC unknown = bad
Exclusive DLC known = good, and can change a buying decision.

i fear that the hype around gta 4 would be dead by the time microsoft gets on whatever the dlc even is. not even telling people what it is at this point in time, when gta 4 is still powerful, will, i think, prematurely kill the hype that would exist if the disc itself included something like "expect dlc exclusive to 360" of some sort. if it takes a year to get this rolling, i think people will just stop caring.

hmm it will help but not to much

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

It really depends on what the content is. Since we have no idea what the GTA IV DLC is (STILL!!!!) or the fallout 3 DLC, or how much it will cost, I would say that for now it has very little impact.
