Forums - Nintendo - Is this the future of sports games?

Before I begin I'd like to make it clear that this is not intended as a joke just for the purpose of insulting Wii fans but I can understand how it could be interpreted as that.

During the weekend I purchased an xBox 360.  I checked out what new games were available for the Wii.  Keep in mind I did not notice this was EA (I was drawn to the head).   Anyhow, I saw this.

Which I first thought was the sequel to this

I kind of shock my head because I didn't understand why there would be a sequel... it didn't occur to me that this was the EA All Play series.  The thought the All Play was like real sports but with proper focus on Wiimote controls.

I've played Madden 08 and thought it was pretty good.  I think PES 2008 is an achievement in excellence.

Is this the future of sports games for the Wii??????  I'm still waiting for an NHL and Boxing.  More so boxing but it's starting to look like that aint happening.

What a bizarre front cover

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

umm you do realize thats just a mascot for one of the college teams, right? Apparently they paid ea money to advertise their school.

EA had a contest with all the college mascots for the Wii cover, the winner was "Sparty" from Michigan, that's the reason for that cover. The Backyard series a a different story.

@bardicverse and alfredofroylan2 - I did not know that, my bad.

The question still remains. Is this it for sports titles (All Play) on the Wii. Gathering from what I've read so far, it's not very good. I thought the All Play games were designed from the ground up for Wii... like how PES was reinvented.

It looks like ground up doesn't get too far up of the cement. Ign pics indicate simpler graphics, cartoony effect and no consideration of realism even though realism is perfectly suitable even to the casual market.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Ultimately, you're going to have to play it to really get a feel, as with sports games, new ways of playing are always shat upon by reviewers that are used to playing the traditional way. Thank God for rentals, no?

What is interesting is both this game and Madden were reviewed this month by Nintendo Power.

Madden 09 received a 9 (out of 10). NCAA 09 received a 5 (out of 10).

The problems may be with the entire NCAA Football franchise though as Xplay gave it only a 2-out-of-5 on its multiplatform (read Xbox 360/PS3) review.

I am interested in hearing more about Madden. Good thing about sports games, if you wait 6 months, you can get them on the cheap.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
