Forums - Nintendo - What Nintendo's Rift with the Hardcore Means for the Industry

Truth be told, Nintendo did jump the gun at E3, they figured the core viewed Mii's as they viewed Mario - they have to have some other meaning though... unless they finally got cought with their pants down.

AC will be larger with the expanded audience than it will with the core audience... so in that sense the only thing hardcore that was announced at E3 was ironically a peripheral and a function with a peripheral.

Oh well, I'm still trying to understand Iwata's stance with Microsofts Avatar system - I guess E3 would of been an amazing place for Microsoft to co-opt the Wii core market, if they had annouced prehaps motion controlls, free online and a few exclusives to boost the functionality of that new controller.

I'm trying to look at it from various angles but it keeps seeming like Nintendo actually either made a mistake or has some master plan. Either way if they do release some 'hardcore' info at the EU event that has me a little worried as the importance of software sales may have influenced that decision.

GG/ This article was actually nonsense though.

I thought we already had some core games on the horizon. Fatal frame iv? I doubt anyone other than HD fanboys are seriously going nuts. Its one thing to be disappointed that we didn't get a new announcement or see any screens from games we wanted, but miyamoto already explained why E3 is not for core games. Frankly, it makes since too.

Very pro PS3 anti Wii article. Wouldn't be surprised if this guy wrote several anti 360 articles as well.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

What this really boils down to is that Hardcore gamers are still expecting to be catered to. things are still happening for the hardcore gamer, they're just not getting their ass kissed anymore and so now they're feeling jealous of "casual" gamers getting the attention.

Good grief people, didn't we declare E3 dead about 2 years ago? The E3 that had nintendo announce the Wii was the last "real" E3. the present day E3 is a mass consumer showcase, which means nintendo will be showing off their more "casual" titles. Go look on the internet if you want to find out about hardcore titles. That's where they'll announce those because that's where hardcore gamers generally gravitate towards.

OLD

..

Wait it's not old. These things just seem to blur together though and it's impossible to tell one "ZOMG Nintendo is destroying teh industry!1!!1!!" article from the other. it's like there's an automated program out there that picks two or three squares at random from Wii Bingo and fills in an entire article.

How come no one ever blames the HD consoles for raising game budgets to unsustainable levels?
A couple generations ago there was far more to gaming than FPS and cinematic experiences. Now, however, some people seem to think that's what's owed to them? I'll happily continue to have fun with my Wii, thank-you.

that's like blaming Union workers for wanting to feed their family....

that or wanting them to export all development to China/India.

Nothing in common.

HD consoles are blowing all their money on graphics, not on paying their programmers.  They're pricing themselves out of the market and making it impossible for indie devs to make a profit on their systems.

If game budgets went up due to a coders union, that would be completely different and I'd support it.

This is the work of deranged millionnaires who want to make 1 or 2 big budget games a year and thus can't afford to experiment so they'll keep pumping out sequels.

It's not Nintendo's fault you fell for it.  Cut your intake of Haterade and/or Gamer Fuel.

This guy brings up some good points.......

.......but of course, with the success of the DS and Wii, any article that says anything remotely positive about Sony or MS and/or doesn't kiss Nintendo's ass will automatically be dismissed/ignored.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

Just looking at the games which will (most likely) benefit from Nintendo's current line-up for the rest of the year:

Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
de Blob
SimCity Creator
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
LEGO Batman: The Videogame
Lost in Blue: Shipwrecked!
Samba de Amigo Wii
Rygar: The Battle of Argus
Monster Lab
Deadly Creatures
Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip
Ghostbusters: The Video Game
Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution 2
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
Guitar Hero World Tour
MySims Kingdom
Call of Duty: World at War
FaceBreaker K.O. Party
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars
Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party
Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Lightsaber Duels
Need for Speed Undercover
Rock Band 2
Skate It
Castlevania Judgment
Sonic Unleashed
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
Tomb Raider Underworld
Little King's Story

Obviously, not all of those games will turn out to be good (or to sell that well) but any of them which are adequate and are marketed well will probably sell very well; and a lot better due to lack of competition.

“If any creator has not played Mario, then they’re probably not a good creator. That’s something I can say with 100 percent confidence. Mario is, for game creators, the development bible.

The "article" started getting skewed after a while.

The only problem I have is, no good games are coming for several months (except for the seemingly decent Star Wars game). I want Dead Rising, The Conduit, and a Kid Icarus release date RIGHT NOW. But that's just me being impatient.
