the PS3 is definately catching up and its only a matter of time before it passes the 360.

This leads to

A) Sony lied. They're making more than 10M.

B) The 360 will have a signifficant bigger 4th quarter (of the year, not fiscal wise) than the Ps3, which will be supplied constrained.

 

It just doesn't seem natural to me that Sony would make the Ps3 supply constrained too, making the 360 the only console that has stock.

It is not a case of sony lying, but they are putting their estimates below what they think will happen because the shareholders will only be unhappy if they decrease their estimates, like they had to do last year

No, I believe Sony said that they had only allocated resources to make 10M for FY 08 to FY 09.

Of course, they could increase production, but they haven't mentioned anything about it, and it would take some time to make the increased production start.

They would not make that decision already. Having seen such good sales in the 1st 6 months, they will know that they are going to move more than 10m consoles

no its sony tactic to be a little conservative and brag about selling more.

 

sony last year predicted selling 9mln psps and sold 13.7.So its not like they had decided to manufacture 9mln psps and suddently due to demand they decided to manufacture 4.7mln more.They could manufacture 14mln but estimated that they would make 9 due to underestimating demand.SAME CASE HERE WITH THE PS3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
