There's something a bit odd here.

Sony said that they would only ship (make) 10M for the FY 2008.

Ps3 had sold 11.5M untill that time, so it is natural to assume that there were 13M Ps3s made untill then.

Sony has already sold 5.2M, meaning that they have already made 3.7M extra. This leaves 6.3M left for Ps3, if it sells out.

Now, the 360 is likely to sell roughly 10-12M this year. After all, it is tracking 50% above last year.

This leads to

A) Sony lied. They're making more than 10M.

B) The 360 will have a signifficant bigger 4th quarter (of the year, not fiscal wise) than the Ps3, which will be supplied constrained.

It just doesn't seem natural to me that Sony would make the Ps3 supply constrained too, making the 360 the only console that has stock.

It is not a case of sony lying, but they are putting their estimates below what they think will happen because the shareholders will only be unhappy if they decrease their estimates, like they had to do last year
