Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumor: CRysis coming to the ps3

That's definitely true as well. It's interesting to see how well Crysis sells because on one hand very few people have the kind of computer that can run it, but on the other we can be damn sure everyone who does will be buying it. =P

The creators of Crysis has explicitly stated the following:

1) Crysis cannot run at optimal detail on either the PS3 or 360.

2) The Crytek Engine will be available on both the PS3 and 360. Therefore, it's likely the PS3/360 will be capable of handling the engine, just not this specific implementation of it, manifested in a game called Crysis.

It doesn't get a lot more direct than that. Link:

It's about 9:40 into the interview.

Also, simply look at the system specs. It's pretty clear the PS3 isn't capable, and the obvious bottlenecks are DirectX 10 and RAM. The recommended specs for Crysis: 2 GBs of RAM. The PS3 has 512 MBs. Even with optimized RAM, that's a problem. No one is saying the game is literally incapable of running on the PS3; just not at full detail, that's all.

Ok X360 and PS3 don't have DirectX 10 but could this not be downloaded?

And why could it not be a port of the game who is a simplier port than the PC version?

Why Can't Crysis Come to Consoles?

First of all, Crysis could be ported to consoles. It's only a matter of working out how many sacrifices would need to be made to make that achievable. But if Crytek can't reach a similar quality bar as they can with the PC version of Crysis, then it's not going to happen.

Why Can't Crytek Produce a Great Crysis Port?

No one is saying they can't, but consoles do have their limitations. Crysis is a very detailed game with an enormous view distance. All that information has to be stored in a quick to reach place which is either the video ram, or the system ram. The next best thing is then the hard-drive. Unfortunately, consoles don't have much ram nor do they have a hard-drive ( which are much faster to read from than discs )

Conclusion:

At the moment, Crytek are only focusing on a PC version of Crysis. Although a console version has been talked about, no final decisions have been made and I doubt we'll hear anything further on this subject until after Crysis is released.

Oh, it could be. The developers explicitly stated that this is a possibility. And it would still look absolutely awesome.

But for reasons that are simultaneously subtle and obvious, some people don't want to admit that their console of choice isn't capable of handling every game ever made on the highest possible settings.

I don't see Crysis coming to the PS3. Sadly, it would actually go to the 360 first even though the PS3 could probably display it better than the 360.
Intel, nVida, and Microsoft, have invested heavily in this game to use it to persuade people to but QuadCores, 8800s, and Vista, respectively.

Exactly, PCs already outclass consoles

eh..... no it could not, only if the ps3 and 360 get a new direcxt10 compatible graphicscard. which is never gonna happen. the xbox360 however is already compatible with direcxt10 to a certain extant, the 360 is somewhere between directx9 and 10 (they call it directx 9.5).

No, DirectX is a Microsoft-only software layer. OpenGL / MesaGL is an open technology, so games can be easily ported to rival systems (first OpenGL or MesaGL needs to be ported). Developing games for DirectX, make them hard to port due to the DirectX' design given by Microsoft, porting towards fully capable or even more powerful rival systems is very hard.

For example for Amigas there is MesaGL (open), Warp3D (closed) and more of a hybrid of the two are available to developers.
