Forums - Sony - Jack Tretton says “Home” May Be Two Years Away

Sounds like it will be a PS4 feature. :)

jk, lol.

Its better they delay to ensure its smooth and interesting. If its too cumbersome or plain out boring, people won't use it and then it was be a waste of resources on Sony's servers.

It'll probably hit in a year or so, imo.

I would rather electrocute my testicles than read another thread started by Vaio.

From these 2 statements, we can infer 4 things.

1 Sony will definitely not open Home as a ghost town
2 I will definitely not read other stupid threads by Vaio
3 Sony aims to get home running soon, but don't prioritise this as high as 1
4 I aim to not electrocute my testicles, but don't prioritise this as high as 2

Wow I seem to be evoking alot of feeling here.

Ignoring the fact that you're basically just a smear campaign against Sony and Nintendo, this thread was particularly bad. You completely misinterpreted what this bloke said, and had that as your thread title for shock value

I completely dislike that post.

He just surfs the web, posts articles that are on a site, and look for other articles on the same site.

He also uses the same exact titles as the articles.

1. I absolutly love Nintendo and have since before you even played your first nintedo game.

2. I missinterped nothing he said cause I didn´t add anyting to the article or the headline it´s all as it was published.

Now if you are man enough to insult and implicate false things about a person then you should be as big of a man and apologise.

@Hus

Before you are banned again I would love to respond. You might not be aware of this but Sony brought a game to market five years ago that does everything you can do in Home, and even more so. That game would be Star Wars Galaxies where players could build houses, decorate the interiors, and had fully customizable characters with thousands of pieces of clothing. The game had hundreds of animations, and the characters could ride on animals, or on vehicles.

Basically everything in Home was being done in that game five years ago on inferior hardware. By all means compare Star Wars Galaxies and Home for us. Tell me exactly how Home in the beta is succeeding where that game fails in social interaction. You have nothing to lose you can try the game free for a month. To me if you already have a working system that can do these things. There is no fundamental reason that you couldn't have refitted that system for this application, and if you wanted more Home version 2 could have gone into production.

Basically the PS3 owners should have the virtual world simulator they were promised right now. Hell if nothing else Sony could just provide one of their pay virtual worlds free of charge as a place holder. Sure there is no bowling, but at least the PS3 owners could run around killing crazy creatures with one another.

brilliant

why not just remake every PS2 game stop wasting time designing new ones.  why designing new game engines, just use old ones it will be faster.  why even make new hardware, just repackage the old one as new.

Best idea would be to just release it unfinished piss people of that try it lose potential users while desperatly trying to release patches to fix the problems.

Then people like you would actually have real problems to complain about on forums, not fantasy ones like you do now.

Just release it with a new SKU of PS3 and call it the PS4. Problem solved.

No I'm serious.

No, no, re-read the post carefully: Tretton nailed the problem. He said: "...the disconnect of when Sony took Home out of the creative minds and put it the hands of business minds…"

Precisely. For Home to succeed, it cannot be a commercial space. It has to be a commons, not just a 3D adjunct of the Playstation Store. My guess is, the suits at HQ wanted it to be a merchandising stream, and had all these ambitious plans to microcharge for every pixel. Then they did the beta and discovered Homesters were coming up with all these wild, wacky and utterly ingenious inventions all their own - and sharing content with their friends. Heck, just think of what a VGChartz club on Home might look like.

So they had to change direction. Which is fine - better a living commons than a dead online mall.

seems like a very long time..

1. Tretton didn't say it would be released in two years... he said he would rather have to wait that long (i.e. - significantly delay it) rather than release it in poor condition
2. Vaio never said that Tretton said it would be released in two years... he simply used the same article title as the original
3. The original article title never claimed that Tretton said it would be released in two years... it said Tretton said it "may" take two years (which Tretton never actually said)
4. Tretton suggested that Sony made a strategic mistake in moving control from the creative types to the business types, and that this was causing the delays
5. Some people seem a little touchy whenever something is posted that doesn't seem to cast Sony in the most sugary-goodness, extra-chocolately light.

My first Ninty game system was a game and watch, I never owned a NES (Master System ftw) but played my friends quite a bit. So in terms of whose been a Ninty fan for longer, I don't think there's much in it.

I don't think "Jack Tretton says Home may be two years away" is a fair title, and while I recognis(z)e that you didn't write it, I have to question why you chose to copy such a badly written article
