Nintendo owns European sales charts
by Brad Nicholson on 07.21.2008 0 comments

The last time we talked Spain and Germany sales charts, we found that Super Smash Brothers Brawl had toppled Metal Gear Solid 4 for the top spot. The week ending on July 13 shows Nintendo’s conquering of Europe has reached a nearly impossible level. The charts, according to gamesindustry.biz, reveal that not only has Snake disappeared from the German list, but so has every other game that doesn’t run on a Wii or Nintendo DS. The Spanish are trying to diversify their portfolio still, but we’re witnessing a shift down from the only two titles on their top ten that isn’t a Nintendo software.

Spain

  1. Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii)
  2. Wii Play (Wii)
  3. Wii Fit (Wii)
  4. Cooking guide: Can't Decide What to Eat? (DS)
  5. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Darkness (DS)
  6. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Time (DS)
  7. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)
  8. My Life Coach (DS)
  9. My Baby Girl (DS)
  10. Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3)
German
  1. Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii)
  2. Wii Fit (Wii)
  3. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Time (DS)
  4. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Explorers of Darkness (DS)
  5. Mario Kart Wii (Wii)
  6. Dr Kawashima's Brain Training (DS)
  7. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS)
  8. More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima (DS)
  9. Mario Kart DS (DS)
  10. Mario Party 8 (Wii)
Man, that is a lot of Nintendo. I guess Europeans really love waggles and styluses. What do you guys think about this?

I don't usually gawk too much at sales charts but damn, that's pretty insane. Actually, the most amazing thing is Wii Play outselling Wii Fit.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

And Mario Kart Wii isn't even on those lists, so I'm guessing that during those weeks there were probably supply problems.

edit: oops didn't see it in Germany. My bad.

GTA IV and MGS4 are on there!

and somewhere in Spain, Diomedes weeps into his pillow.

Alot of this has to do with the Wii and now DS outpacing PS2 in Europe.

DS wouldn't be selling 200,000/week in Europe if it didn't have compelling software for Europe though.

Wii vs. PS3 in Europe is probably going to be the most competitive race this generation though.

I still wonder what market is buying the wii.
I came from the ps2 and the wii does not interest me at all.
I have one in the house, it,s my daughters and I never play it.

@reask:
What made Titanic the most successful movie? If you can anwser this, you can also answer your question about the European Wii/DS market. Cherchez la femme, baby...

Whoa, to be honest i expected the PS3 to have more presence in the smaller markets (Germany, Spain, Italy, etc.). I can't believe all but 2 of the top 10 in Spain is Nintendo and the entire top 10 is Nintendo in Germany.
