I did play the first one...I played through the whole campaign mode on the middle difficulty (Hardcore I think) and I've played on every multiplayer map available.

I agree Spore will get the most praise, and I'm kinda surprised at how many people are calling MGS4 for GOTY since all the past MGS never were GOTY quality.

Last I checked, Gears of War ranked in the upper echelon of the best games of 2006 according to OXM, and Gamespot Readers Choice awards, and ranked in the top 4 for most every website/magazines top 10 games of the year.

So I think it's a candidate. I don't know if it'll win but...

Eh. For GOTY, it's going to be real hard to nail one down: GTAIV had universal praise, moreso than MGS4 did, or SSBBB.

It'll be a tough one with GOW2, Fable, LBP, Resistance 2, and multiplats in Fallout 3, and L4D.

If I was to crown a winner.......I'd go with Fable 2.

I know I'll get trashed for it, but I think that it has the most "potential" to win if it hits everything properly. It'll either be a high-80's game, or wind up winning, IMO.

Damn that's actually the first time I've seen the boxart for Left 4 Dead. Kickass. I might just go buy the retail version and activate it on Steam so I can own that box haha.

I'm going to say spore. My game of the year will probably be one of the many ds rpgs I anticipate. I don't know yet because there are so many games I will be getting this half of the year.

No, you're pretty much right. The game doesn't look to do that much more than the original. Unless Epic really does something spectacular with the story *laughs hysterically*, I don't think it will be worthy of GotY.

 

You don't need a reason to chainsaw people in half...

Anyway, I do really think that to be an improvement it does need a story, and better difficulties

Spore or Wii Fit.

Overall Spore will win. Unlike Wii Fit, Spore will not only be praised by "normal" mass media, but also by videogames media.
