Last I checked, Gears of War ranked in the upper echelon of the best games of 2006 according to OXM, and Gamespot Readers Choice awards, and ranked in the top 4 for most every website/magazines top 10 games of the year.
So I think it's a candidate. I don't know if it'll win but...
Eh. For GOTY, it's going to be real hard to nail one down: GTAIV had universal praise, moreso than MGS4 did, or SSBBB.
It'll be a tough one with GOW2, Fable, LBP, Resistance 2, and multiplats in Fallout 3, and L4D.
If I was to crown a winner.......I'd go with Fable 2.
I know I'll get trashed for it, but I think that it has the most "potential" to win if it hits everything properly. It'll either be a high-80's game, or wind up winning, IMO.
