Forums - General - Yesterday, I saw a Beatle in concert

Thanks. He wasn't my favorite Beatle before (John was, now they are tied). You just can't deny the popularity and depth of the musical library he has access to. He really knows how to keep the crowd interested because virtually every other song is a song that has touched the hearts of millions.

To think it was not until 3pm that I finally made up my mind that I would go. I would be kicking myself in the butt today had I not.

Apparently it is no longer the cool thing to do, introduce the band. I just find it classy. But he did interact with his band a lot and it is clear that he greatly appreciates them and even likes them.

I don't think it ever was 'cool' to introduce your band, to me it is no more than a decent gesture to your colleagues to let them enjoy the respect they deserve for allowing the singer (in this case) to perform well. Classy as you call it indeed. But then again as you describe his 'contact' with the band that might do the trick for the band itself, but it still leaves the audience not able to applaud a single musician.

(Two weeks ago i decided 7 in the morning (slightly intoxicated) to go see Neil Young that same evening, and boy am i glad i did!)

Wow. that must have been great. Fantastic setlist. Glad to hear that you had a great time.

A Day in the Life is my favourite Beatles tune as well, did Paul do John's parts or did someone from the band do them?

While John was, without a doubt, my favourite Beatle (and one of my favourite singles artists as well), Paul is an amazing musician as well. I would love to see him in concert, however he has gone on record a few times saying that he would not play in Newfoundland. One could hope, though.

Again, I'm glad that you got to enjoy what seemed to be a legendary night (judging by the setlist).

Also, 'Woman'? as in John Lennon's 'Woman'? How was that?

Paul did all of A Day in the life. Really well to boot. The fact that it was a medley with "Give peace a chance" made it even better. The rest of the band only sang backup, never replacing John.

In what context did he say he wouldn't play NFLD? Was he listing places he wouldn't play, or did he just blurt it out in an unrelated conversation? Good news for Labrador then. ;) Seriously though, the Beatles did land in Gander international airport on numerous occasions at the height of their popularity. Also don't feel bad since like I said he has only done 3 venues this year and only one in NA (without counting the 2 songs he did with Billy Joel).

I don't know "Woman" so I didn't pay particular attention to it, but it was all top notch. I have trouble imagining an act I'd like to see doing a better job.

He said he wouldn't play here until the seal hunt ended during his, Heather Mills and Danny Williams appearances on Larry King Live. But as you mentioned, he doesn't play many live shows anymore, I may actually book a trip around it some year.

Glad to hear you had a good time :)

I was surprised they didn't invite Quebec-origin singer (like Celine Dion) to do the concert when I heard you talked about the concert last week.

Celine will be having a "Celine and Friends" type show in 3 weeks or so (I don't really pay attention to her comings and goings, frankly) where she will perform 3 songs and the rest will be from other "popular" local artists. ;) Of course she confirmed she was only performing 3 songs before Paul McCartney committed to do a full 2h30M solo show, so maybe she will have the sense to expand what she had planned for her public. Maybe I am giving her too much credit.

The McCartney show was only one of the events we used to celebrate, the only one that interested me so far. We also had the largest fireworks display ever in North America. The video of those are below:
