Forums - Nintendo - Do you think The Conduit is carrying much 'responsibility' on its shoulders

By the topic title, I mean....here we have a core game, designed from the ground-up for the Wii, devs seem really intent on taking advantage of the system´s capabilities, and it´s getting a fair share of attention.

If this game does really well, it might show several 3rd parties that there´s a healthy market for core games (that aren´t ports) on the Wii.

Out of the announced 3rd party core games in development for the Wii, The Conduit is the one in the spotlight, and it might be one of the games that open a lot of eyes.

What do you say?

It's called Red Steel revived haha. Red Steel had the same thing going for it and well it didn't live up to it. Now The Conduit is running off the same thing. So in a way it is carrying a lot on its shoulders, but I think this will fare better. But if this game can get the advertising of Red Steel then we shoudl be alright.

@Zucas

Hmmm...but do you think The Conduit seems to have a better chance at living up to the hype?

The Conduit won't prove a thing. It's not showing to be inspired enough to generate outstanding sales. Due to lack of competition it might well sell 1-2m but that's really not saying much.

If a FPS sold on Wii like CoD4 or Halo 3 does on 360 then 3rd parties would stand up and take notice. The Conduit will likely be seen as a novelty - nothing more.

People love to put a lot of weight on the shoulders of HVS (They share the blame too)... but the Conduit is not a HighBudget project, is almost an Indy dev, small team, small budget, not publisher, unknow name, they are trying to make a place for them make money and stop making crap titles...

The response of the market will be interesting... but it depends a lot of the publisher and their faith on the title...

Oh of course.  Red Steel showed off nice graphics to start off with, promised 1:1 sword control, a deep online setup, and awesome gun controls.  It ended up with bad character models, not even close 1:1 sword control, no online and a terrible multiplayer setup, and of coruse on and off gun controls.

The Conduit already has a better chance considering most say the gun controls are similar if not better than that of MOHH2, graphics are shaping up nicely, and has an online setup with voice chat.  So it's really not about living up the hype for The Conduit, its about getting the sheer advertising and hype behind it like Red Steel had.  Remember Red Steel sold a million copies purely off hype.

Yeah, because Halo 3 and Gears of War were very inspiring/sarcasm

Yes finally someone agrees with me haha.

Well, the High Voltage guys have hit the jackpot. The Conduit looks lika a generic alien FPS. Sure, it looks very nice, but still generic. The overall suckage on the Wii hardcore scene has skyrocketed this title into hype heaven. It really puzzles me how any of the big publishers didn't figured this out (except ubisoft with RS). With just some hard work in the graphics department and a hardcore orientated title, they could've generated tons of hype with minimal marketing, and almost ensure good to great sales for the title, while all other publishers are pushing hard to be a casual market contender.

Well maybe not. The development costs on the wii are many times less than that on the ps360. That means the conduit wouldn't have to sell as much to make as much money. So it could attract some of the smaller third parties who don't have too much money to the wii. And if they start making games that sell close to the of the PS3 and 360 then larger third parties will come over too.
