How can this be seen as anything but a good thing? At the very least, touchscreens can be used as a more user-friendly (and faster!) mouse. Want to double-click something? Tap it twice. Aim a gun in a FPS game? Touch the spot, and have your gun there instantly a 'la Metroid Prime Hunters. There won't be any more need for the split-second delay while you move the mouse to touch something.

I'm quite certain there is still a delay when touching a touchscreen, and I'd imagine it's more than moving a mouse.

I don't see how double-tapping something with your finger is easier than double-clicking a mouse...double-clicking is much faster I'd think because your finger is almost always resting on the button, ready to go, with minimal finger lifting.

And yeah, I can't imagine a game looking very cinematic or immersive when your hand is blocking a chunk of the screen.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

the mouse is leagues ahead of all other input technologies when it comes to accuracy and comfort. Try using a pointing device or a touchscreen for hours of work LOL.

try working in graphic design or 3D design.. then you would love a touchscreen.. I use it for hours.. its like pen and paper.. but if you only use Word for your work then it's useless..

I know touchscreens are great for graphic design...tablets have pressure sensitivity and a more tactile method of input, but for the average consumer it's not desirable.

Same with 3D controls...great for 3D design when an X/Y axes mouse isn't good enough, but for everything else it's either not quite accurate enough or unnecessary.

I believe that for the average consumer it's highly desirable.. but for gamers no..

The Average consumer doesn't need the precision of a fast mouse.. they don't game..

Are you serious?  I don't see how double tapping is faster than double clicking.  I'd say it is more likely many times slower.  Same with moving your gun.  You say there won't be a split second delay, but there will in the time it takes you to move your arm.  It just won't show in game.  How is moving my arm across a 21" screen more instant than moving my mouse about 2" and getting the same result?

I haven't touch a mouse in ages!

touch screens aren't as fast as the mouse for certain things.. but it is for certain things... i don't doubt that touch screens will continue to grow, however i don't think that necessarily means the mouse will be phased out anytime soon

Oh, right, moving your arm up and down to select things is much faster and accurate than a small move of the wrist. Thank god we have analysts to tell us, how would we know these things otherwise?

You mean something like this correct?

Cool I didn't know that these tablets now have a screen, where you can directly draw on. The tablets I know from back then (a long time ago) had a "mouse"-pad with a pen and are more of a "mouse" for me than the touchscreens the analyst IMO meant. I think he meant iPhone like touchscreen devices. Which are cool but not for prolongued work. This is of course cool for drawing.

LOL why aren't there any crossplatform FPS when you need them. Oh you would die so bad against a PC gamer. Moving your hand lying comfortably on the desk for a couple of millimeter vs. aiming your whole arm. Yeah I bet the latter is faster .

I love the mouse, any other imput device is just odd when on a PC, hell I cant even use the trackpad on my laptop.
