There is no date on the PR piece's sales figures ... which means they could be older than May.

Also, while it is PR speak, it does say "sold" -- so they could be estimating actual retail sales and not shipping.

Similarly, Cliffy B's quote on the GIbiz site in February also mentions "sold" not "shipped."

Not that there is not some potential for overtrack, but this could be much a do about nothing.

Did Gears: Redux really come out already?  I've heard nothing about it.

Old article reported 4.5 million and new one which is less then 2 months old reported 4.7 million SHIPPED!

I think you are refering to old info shanbcn.  And are you saying you expect ioi to change numbers just because of the article you found?  I don't think it's a more reliable source than what ioi pulls from.  The article doesn't specify where it gets the number.  I think it's an old number.
