yes, we know it is being developed on a pc thank you for reminding us.

Is it being developed for the ps3 though? That is my question.

i will fix the OP to help understand the question better.

EDIT: I'm going to put you under "not a port" reasoning that not every game can be a port considering some versions of some games are called ports of other version, thereby differentiating ports and non ports. Your statement suggests that you believe that games are developed on a pc, for a console.

It's not a port when the game is being initially made for the PS3. Crystal tools is a multi-platform engine though, specifically designed to work across the 360, PS3, and the PC. And it also partially works on the Wii (not all aspects though, for obvious reasons).

I believe the idea was to create an engine that ports from one console to another cheaply and easily. not one that works for all consoles.

Actually you have that completely backwards.

"Like other middleware solutions, game engines usually provide platform abstraction, allowing the same game to be run on various platforms including game consoles and personal computers with few, if any, changes made to the game source code" -from wiki

actually you have that completely backwards

EDIT: also, care to answer whether yu believe the ps3 version is a port?

The game is being developed...then optimised for a system.

  1. You automatically fail for using the wiki to prove anything.
  2. If they created the engine, and then created a finished game with that engine, and then decided to make that engine work on every other platform you would be right.
  3. They created that engine from the ground up (or at least very early on) to work on every platform.  That means they made it as one to work for all consoles.  So no, I am not backwards on that.  Our engine does the same exact thing.
  4. It's not a port.  It is being made with the PS3 version as the main platform but I don't think it's a port.  If it were a port the game would already be released, not released simultaneously with the 360 version.

Actually, funny thing about that.  Just because the game is being developed on a PC doesn't mean the final version actually works on the PC.  It takes just as much to get something to work on the PC as it does to get it to work on the 360 or PS3.

The LD's, artists, whatever work in editor for that engine and that is on a PC.  To those people, it does not matter what system you're developing for.  That editor then makes something that will work on the chosen console.  If your engine doesn't convert all those objects the artists and LD's placed into something the PC can actually use, that game doesn't work for the PC even though it was made on one.

It wont happen.

1.lol western, i know i fail for wiki, but i did provide the source. I'm not trying to pretend like i know what porting is by heart in a quick brief statement.

2. right how? engines in general? I should clarify that the crystal tools engine they are using to develop ff13, is an engine that is designed to work efficiently in porting different versions of the same game to other consoles more cheaply and quickly for their types of games than by using other engines.

3. Well they did specifically mention that after the ps3 version was done they would begin "porting" it to the 360 which would delay the game for some time, implying that there were at least a few changes that needed to occur before product was finished.

4. i agree

5. sorry, i didn't mean to be abrasive with you. I just prefer someone to explain themselves rather than just saying (paraphrasing) "you are wrong"
