Forums - Gaming - Sony and Nintendo team up to bring you 1080p on the Wii

Samsung currently makes all the LCD screens that are in Sony set. The only difference between top of the line Bravias and Samsungs best models is the image processors and external casing - other than that they use the exact same panel. Now, that being said the image processors in the Sony LCDs are far better than those in the Samsungs and do a great job of handling SD content, as well as HD.

Sony and Samsung are also working together to make a multi-billion dollar LCD plant.

All I know is that PS2 games such as KH2 and FFXII look like PSX games but then with a worse image. Except cutscenes look really nice. I'm thinking about selling the whole junk as I think a small LCD wouldn't do any good either or would it? It's ridiculous that SE PS2 games at least doesn't have progressive scan. Tri Ace games SOIII, even the first JP version before the director's cut and VPS have this. Small in a sence of about 16inch. I bought at first a External TV card for my laptop a Hauppage USB pro or something but didn't work. The image stopped moving as soon as I pressed full screen. Any other suggestions?
Wouldn't a Slim line have a clearer image or has that nothing to do with it?

I have composite cables for my Wii and PS2 but I still get jaggies on my Wii. Do I possibly have something setup wrong? I know when I change to my Wii the TV goes to 480p but I freely admit I know very little about setting all the crap up. I do know that I have my Wii set to 480p and when I switch to my 360 it goes to 720p (highest my TV goes).

Well if you are using composite cable you are not getting 480P. You are getting 480i. Comonent cables are the only way to get Analog Progressive scan.

whoops, meant component, I can't type.

yes they do have the same panels. However the contrast ratio and brightness and sharpenss are far better on the samsung. 1500:1 v 3000:1 soon new model will be 8000:1  (this is for the 26inch models). From memory the 40inch 1080p samsung has a contrast ratio of 15000:1 etc...

@Twesterm: Not really as long as your games doesn't support progressive scan (holding triangle + X button at the same time when the playstation 2 logo appear before starting a game) you won't get 480p but 480i only even with a component cable.

Here a list of progressive scan supported PS2 games:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Progressive_Scan_PS2_Games

As my collection of PS2 games mostly excists out of Japanese RPG games there's hardly a single game which supports progressive scan, only about 4 out of 60!

Hmm, I've never heard of the triangle + X thing before, seems a little silly but will definitely give that a try.

Eh, believe me... it works! I've tried it with VPS and SOIII right after the Playstation 2 logo showed up after starting up my game and got the message if I want the screen to be put in progressive scan or not. Same thing what happens when you start a Gamecube game on the WII when it requests to play in progressive scan or not. Of course you'll need your WII in the progressive stand together with the component cable. Only difference is, with the WII it happens automatic, you don't have to do something before getting the request... well... except of starting up the game of course :D
