nathantay-are you suggesting that the gaming market grows absolutely none at all? on your high end its guessing 140 million, which is lower than current/last gen sales and ps2 is still selling.

i say the total of all in the next gen (ps4, xbox 720, wii 2) should be above 200 million total since globalization is going to give money to many people who will want entertainment. dont be surprised when this gen sells a crap load more than normal. because of that. the world is going to completely change its economics when it is servicing 3/4 billion people instead of 500 million tops (thats probably extremely high since the percentage makes it lower that actual number of people who have money to spend).

Wii because it brings change.

I feel if PS3/360 win, it would simply make their next systems more powerful and little else. Essentially making them into PCs with the same archaic control scheme. If the Wii wins it most likely will reinvigorate Sony/Microsoft to improve.

How I want this to end (while irrelevant) is that the Wii is very successful, but more important than sales figures or profits pulled, the gaming industry is changed completely, sent in a new direction, with new ideals. The PS3 barely pulls enough cash in to keep Sony from shitcanning its gaming dept. The Xbox 360 pulls a strong second, outperforming its predecessor.

How I THINK it will end is a lot less dramatic: The Wii sells well, gaming is rethought a bit, Sony continues to churn out systems with the confused ideal that labels and only labels sell consoles, and Microsoft does decently well, no really pros or cons.

sony has already learned the power of games and price. promoting kaz has shown that.

nintendo hasnt changed much except they are moving in a much more casual manor. we'll see how they do next gen.

ms has learned the power of the casual gamer and price. they now know the even 400 is too high. the casual gamer which would make them successful still isnt buying in. they also see that casual games make casual gamers come over. they are depending on rare, but once they see that it fails they will change.

PS3 coming out on top if the lifespan holds up and the support PS3 completely for all 10 years.

How do I want this generation to end? 10 years from today, the enormous popularity of the Wii ends up pulling in more new gamers than ever thought possible.
VG machines become ubiquitous. Naturally a percentage of Casuals will "upgrade" to a PS3 or 360 and hence more and more games will come out for those systems. Microsoft will continue to generate great 1st party and garner some 3rd party exclusives as will Sony. Competition is good, and lots of great games, regardless of console, is the end result.

PS3, Wii, XB360 - I love the Wii, but PS3's technology will become cheaper over the years and the Wii will only be able to compete against PS3's future titles for so long. Not to say that the Wii is going to do bad, but I just have a feeling PS3 will pull ahead in the long run.

If not, then with me happy, which would likely mean Nintendo is successful and 3Ps dramatically reduce console exclusives so that I can play just about any game on any console.
