Forums - Gaming - I think I would prefer FF7 go to the PS3...6 too.

SO4 wasn't announced before the wii launched, neither was infinite undiscovery, or tales of Vesperia.

If money was the absolute sole motivation then then all development would shift to the DS, or hell it never would've left the PS2. Why make anything for the wii, 360, or PS3 when there are over 120 million dedicated PS2 fans out there? Because developers also want to make grandiose games, they want their vision to be realized, and they want to push the boundries of available technology. Just like with all mediums of art that also make a profit, there are artists behind the suits that can say what they do and don't want to do.

By your 100% profitibility theory no new systems should exist, and the PS3 and 360 should've died long long ago.

If you ask me, I would want FFVII for PS3 and FFVI for Wii/DS. If they really can bring Amano´s artwork (which is much better than Nomura´s btw) to fruition then I´d say go for a Wii remake or even HD one, but that would be too risky.

Alright how do you explain this?

NIS America's Jack Nilda confirmed at E3 yesterday that the company's home branch in Japan is working on a new title for the PLAYSTATION 3. He did not provide any details about the game aside from the fact that it will take greater advantage of the hardware's technological capabilities than Disgaea 3. Nilda noted that the company is also interested in working on an RPG with motion capabilities for the Wii, but the PlayStation hardware will continue to be the primary focus for the foreseeable future(due to the larger number of hardcore gamers). Lastly, Nippon Ichi is set to announce two new titles: one before the end of July and one in September or October. Only time will tell whether or not one of those games ends up being the mysterious PS3 exclusive.

Theoretically this should be impossible. Aren't they just throwing money away here? After all the success of the DS and wii, they are focusing primarily on the PS3? Even going so far as to make one of them completely exclusive?

By your theory no new games should be announced for the PS3, in favor of the DS or wii. And yet, they continue to do so. Companies just keep making games for them.

Here are things that will be benefited from both consoles that I thought of.

Turn Based Rpgs-WII
IR Pointing(Allowing for quicker menu selection)

Some gestures in between during battles. This would probably make it more fun. Like lets say you are trying to do a special attack, but you must get the gesture right for it to work correctly. This would also use the ir, and motion controls. I think it could add something refreshing to turn based rpgs, and definitely worth the lesser quality graphics(that could still look better btw if the art style is nice).

Turn Based Rpgs- Hd Consoles.
Graphics- Most Jrpgs that aren't final fantasy don't need technically impressive graphics. A good art style could make up for this. The superior power of the other consoles does allow for developers to have more power to express their art style. So I would give it to that.

Action Rpgs- Wii

Full-Blown Motion Controls- In games that have alot of enemies I could see main attacks being mapped to the A or B button, then specials or magic being mapped to motion controls. For games that don't then I could see motion controls being used for everything.

Ir- I already mentioned how this benefits.

Action Rpg- Hd Consoles
Graphics- Already mentioned.
Physics/AI- Right now there hasn't been many HD console games that use AI or Physics that the wii can't do. I don't see this changing anytime soon. Also I haven't thought of rpgs pushing these.

Conclusion- It depends on what type of rpg you are making. Rpgs work fine for both consoles.

You guys please get back on topic. Both consoles allow for Jrpgs to sell, but the wii would probably be the better option for most. Lets argue about how the games will benefit on both consoles rather than how they will sell.

@Soriku

What I want is for you to not start the debate in the first place. The reason that people are arguing with you is because you brought a totally financial reasoning into a thread about what a certain gamer wants. It is seriously disappointing seeing how you can't seem to leave well enough alone.

...

I would much rather have KH3 on the PS3 instead of the Wii.

If it was on the Wii, the fighting wouldn't be 1:1 and I think 3:1 or 4:1 would be lame.

You theory of pure profitability though is logically flawed. It leads to the stagnation of the market, and if it were completely true we'd all still be playing our NES. Why invest more money in higher technology with a smaller userbase? Why make new gaming engines, or platforms at all?

Because artists are needed to push boundries, and create things that are more than just "adequate for profitability"

Expanding, by your theory maximum profits would also not be the most profitable. Why buy expensive development kits, hire new talent, learn how to code for new systems, and then spend a ton of money on this technology which costs way more to develop for? How does that maximize profits when that money could be spent making DS, or wii, or PS2 games?

Wii Motion Plus!! I hope the fighting isn't 1:1 though.

I think, if someone wants a HD jRPG a much better option would be Xbox360/PS3. I don´t care on which platform KH ends as I loved the gameplay mechanics in its first 2 iteration. It would be fun to see how it would turn up on the Wii, but I don´t think it would be substantially better because of the Wiimote. It ´s just that from a financial point and KH not relying on graphics it makes more sense on the Wii.
