Forums - Sales - PAL Charts Week 29

I don't know if this is already posted somewhere else...

http://www.videogamer.com/news/25-07-2008-8917.html

Mario and Sonic is selling 20,000 units a week on Wii and DS combined.

MCV has learned that Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games for Wii has now sold over a million units in the UK alone. Combined with the DS version, the game has sold 1.35 million units.

"Mario and Sonic has made gaming history with over a million software units sold on the Nintendo Wii within the UK alone," SEGA Europe North MD Alan Pritchard told MCV. "The title has been an immediate hit from launch and we will continue to re-invest and market this title throughout the rest of the year with a hope of reaching over two million sales by the end of our financial year."

MCV notes that the game is shifting an average of 20,000 units a week on Wii and DS combined.

It looks like Mario & Sonic Wii will reach Diamond seller status in the next update from the ELSPA sales awards! And with the continued strength of both Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit I wonder if those titles will reach Double Platinum this month as well.

I saw this, but thought it was just an old article from MCV as there wasn't any new news about this on the site. Now I see it's actually a new article with new figures. I guess it was only published in MCV's print edition, and not online.

Mario & Sonic to keep Sega running until Xmas

New UK TV ad amongst huge new marketing plan as top five Christmas place is targeted

Sega is embarking on its first re-marketing of a catalogue title in a bid to keep Mario and Sonic in the UK All Formats top five until Christmas.

The ambitious target has been set after the Wii and DS title clocked up 1.2m sales in the UK since launch last year.

“We will re-advertise this title heavily and continue re-marketing it all through the year,” Sega’s UK boss Alan Pritchard told MCV. “We’ve sustained sales at 25,000 a week.

So, about 150k combined sold over the 7 weeks prior to this article, which matches the 20k/week claim.

1m for Wii, and 350k for DS, as you suggest, Wii version should go Diamond this month.

Looking at the last 8 weeks sales Wii was placing quite a bit higher than DS, which might suggest it was outselling it maybe in the region of 2-1 or something. Last two weeks DS version has climbed the charts, but Wii version has been consistently around #12, which suggests to me DS has increased in sales rather than Wii declining. I'm estimating sales were averaging 13k Wii/ 7k DS, but last two weeks were something like 13k Wii/ 12k DS. DS has lots of titles in the charts now, I'm guessing this is down to a) few new releases, DS games with long legs benefit from low overall sales, and b) DS has received a boost from the summer holidays.

You got to love how they actually want to sell an additional 650k units in the rest of 2008 Well, as long as it keeps selling as well as it does they could get close, although selling 20k per week won't be enough.

Is the wii not available in New Zealand?

Well, DS has always had a lot of games in the Italian charts, but Wii has improved a lot recently. Still, Wii only has two games in top 10, so it still has a long way to go to match other European countries.

One more than the PS3

Italy updated, seems that SELL publishing week 28 France chart only 1 week late was a mistake, they haven't bothered to update week 29 at all this week, so I guess we're back to 2 week delays from them.
