I just learned this from Wiki.

David Goyer ruled out using The Penguin or Catwoman as a villain in a future film, prefering to use antagonists from the comics that have not yet been portrayed on the big screen.

If that is true and Nolan doesnt want to use villains already used then who will be next? Of course he did you two face and he had already been used so that kind of gets rid of what this guy said.

He also said that he's trying to make the Batman movies more real, so I guess we can rule out Clayface and Killer Croc from making any appearances.  The Riddler is out as well (which is ashame) since he was in Batman Forever.  I think that the Mad Hatter or Black Mask might have a shot, but I'm kinda hoping Hush comes in on the third movie.

Edit:  Also, it would be pretty cool if they just cut Robin out and go straight to Nightwing.

Wow. I watched the first one the night before, and even that couldn't prepare me for the Dark Knight. Some thoughts:

Can't believe Rachel dies in the movie. I thought she was the Mary-Jane in the Batman comics.

LOL, I thought the movie was almost over when they first caught the Joker. Though, I do enjoy movies that are delightfully lengthy.

I am now afraid of the Joker. The eye stabbing thing he did right at the beginning scared the shit out of me, it was so unexpected.

Is it just me or was Bruce Wayne barely in this movie? And why does he act like a complete douche?

I was sad that they replaced Katie Holmes with Maggie Gyllenhaal. I liked Katie and Aaron from "Thank you for Smoking," I was looking forward to that combo again.

Those 'pranks' ( if you can call them that) by the Joker were really sick. I mean, blow up the other ship before they blow up yours? Yikes.

I was expecting something on par with Iron Man, but this movie truly destroys it.
5/5, everyone should watch it.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is the best Zelda title ever made.

i really wish heath ledger could act in more movies, not just in the batman movies but any movie.. he had a great talent

R.I.P: Heath Ledger

@PDF, the mayor wears eyeliner in EVERYTHING he does. He's been in dark knight, Lost and Scrubs (among other things) and he's always wearing eyeliner. Since I keep forgetting his name, we just call him "Guyliner"

Heath Ledger really was excellent in this movie. Simply amazing. I liked the aesthetic the film presented, as well, as it managed to fit the Batman ethos without appearing too cartoonish -- which is what the original creator intended.

The movie as a whole was heavy handed, which was disappointing but expected for action movies that try and break out of archetypical schlock (you can't stray too far, after all). The symbolic meaning of The Joker went from subtle and well done to obvious to explicitly and directly stated; again referencing the archetypical schlock, I assume a movie of this nature cannot put such metonomy in a completely understated manner, simply because it will alienate those who came to simply have a fun time.

In addition, Dent's pscyhological breakdown wasn't believable: going from good to insane is believable under duress, but insane to evil is not. The decline was handled too swiftly and abruptly, clearly to suit the director's desire to flip the film into a philosophical didacticism on the nature of human resolve and ethic.

These complaints don't mean I didn't like it: I did, particularly and especially because of Ledger's performance.

Saw the movie yesterday. Great movie.

I kind of agree with Bodhesatva. It was a bit heavy handed. I´d also say that the action sequences weren´t that great (nice looking just not that exciting). A bit long too. They could have taken out that Hong Kong part.

Aaaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent) was actually quite good. He just wasn´t given a proper character arc. It was kind of rushed. Christian Bale was good, as he always is. Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine were underused and Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel) was Ok. Her character doesn´t exist in the comics, but she served to some purpose.

Now, Heath Ledger was simply astounding to me. Because The Joker character could have been so easily done over-the-top and he nailed it. The way of speaking, the maneirisms, the whole chaotic persona, simply amazing. Every scene he was in, was amazing.

He, dressed as a nurse, freakish.

"You complete me" Awesome

P.S. - Did anyone else think that Christian Bale´s voice as Batman wasn´t that good? I was kind of annoyed by it.

I won't write up a whole review, but this was an absolutely amazing movie, one of the best (If not 'the') I've ever seen.

Bod makes a god point with the symbolism. It did lose its subtlety, although I still think it was handled well. It didn't seem forced or anything, and the dialogue remained solid.
However, I thought Harvey's fall from grace was believable, or as believable as Two-Face could ever be. He wasn't particularly evil or psychotic (Motivated by revenge, if anything), he just gave up all his hope to chance. And considering what happened to him, and the way the Joker gets into his mind, it seemed quite plausible.

Ledger's performance was absolutely insane. One of the best antagonists I've ever seen hit the big screen. Definitely Oscar-worthy.

EDIT: @ Above
I've always liked Bale's Batman voice, but you're definitely not alone in its criticism.

Dent never turned "evil". After the transformation into Two-Face, he sought justice just like he did as Harvey, but in a different manner. In his quest, he spared the Joker, killed one crooked cop, spared the other, killed Falcone's driver, and then tried to kill Batman, himself, and Gordon. Remember, he left everything to chance after becoming Two Face by flipping the coin. That was the only way for true justice in his mind.

He went after everyone who was involved in Rachel's death. Like Batman, he became a dark knight, a vigilante who sought justice against those who in his mind had done wrong. He just saw justice differently than the caped crusader (aka a bullet in the perp's head). I liked how Nolan took the "one bad day" theme from The Killing Joke and applied it to Harvey.

All in all a fantastic movie, the best of its kind. I give it two thumbs (and 8 fingers) up.

Just saw this movie.... Jesus Christ. Movie of the year, I don't see anything topping it for awhile. I feel that Heath Ledger stole it from Christian Bale cuz he was THAT good. At first, a few yrs ago when they announced that he would play the joker, I was completely disappointed cuz I didn't think he could pull it off, but now, I'm sad that we won't be able to see his greatness in a sequel (if he wouldve been in it). Great character development for both Harvey Dent and The Joker. I did not think Rachel was going to die, I was in shock/kinda relieved cuz man, Maggie Gyllenhaal looked horrible. I kept on thinking "did they even put make up around her eyes?". Hopefully Lucius does stay with Bruce cuz honestly, I can't get enough of Morgan Freeman (mostly his voice, same thing with Samuel Jackson). This movie went sooooo far and beyond Iron Man, that its easy to say that this movie made me forget bout iron man.

My Rating = A (unlike strategyking rating it a -A :P )

oh come on! An -A is good! :-/

I don't think I have ever rated a movie an A

on-topic: Was anybody kind of happy Racheal died?
