Forums - Sony - PSP 3.5 firmware update allows game to hit 333 MHz

No need to download anything. They include new firmware on UMD. Click and forget. Not a big deal. Even girl is able to make it. No rocket science here.

Wow, a personal attack on my gender. Lovely. :)

So I guess you don't like the Wii updates either, the addition of new channels? It's unbearable really.

Wii-channels don't enhance game play, they're supplemental features unlike the PSP firmware update which is inherent to the console's primary function, game play. They're really two quite different things in their inherent relation to the intended function of the console.

Ohh god no i got to update my firmware, its the end the commies are after me.

And here I thought you liked Sony? :)

yes you are the odd one out, although if this product was made by nintendo i doubt you would be saying the same thing

Actually I would be even more dissapointed if Nintendo was doing this. One of my primary values of a console gaming is a self-contained and inherently self-reliable unit, not a PC. Having to add supplementary features like channels or a web browser is not a problem. Having to add features necessary to gameplay I feel is an issue though.

All I did was brought up an opinion and personal concern, why it needed attacked as such shows some severe insecurity in the Sony community and I wonder if my feelings aren't secretly shared by those who responded to my post given the nature of their retorts. :)

Eh, custom firmware can already do this

Homebrew coders are whats keeping the PSP from sucking.

Believe or not but devs can't make games only for people who hacked the system. It's all about officially faster clock. Homebrew means nothing... you can play GTA with pretty higher framerate. That's all.

Edit:

Homebrew coders are whats keeping the PSP from sucking. - this is one of the dumbest statements I've heard for a long time...

Clearly you've never seen what homebrew has to offer as it can do much more than play GTA without shit framerates.

So enlight me, please. What more offers 333 MHz clock for current or future PSP's games than higher framerate (if there will not be an official firmware)?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i've thought that most psp owners stay the drokk away from firmware upgrades.I do not follow the psp hack scene, but if not already, there should be soon a homebrew pactch that unlocks the same features. I'm sorry but here nobody buys a psp if it isn't hacked, and the official sony firmware locks their system.

Still, if they purposely downgraded the CPU from 333 MHz just to save battery life, means they were suffering from GameGear nightmares at the time of the design. Nothing worse than undermining your own system, it should be at full form at the time of the buy.

@ VonShigsy

There is is no competition for PSP in terms of graphics even though most of games works with 222 MHz. For me PSP is a game machine. I don't care about extra stuff homebrew provides. Unfortunately as you've pointed people hack system on massive scale not for programs scene provides but to pirate. Piracy is always a bad thing for a system. Period.

Lol use that excuse for the PS3 too. "The PS3 is actually doing well because it has no competition in graphics, it is it's own product in its own market." Lol.

I didn't question that the psp can achieve great graphics, even with an under-clocked CPU, i just said that undermining your system power for better battery life leads to original Gameboy ages, where the handhelds were judged for their playing time before shutdown. This issue could be dealt before release with a better battery choice by Sony. I cannot think any other system that locks it's pottencial at his release.

As for the dangers of piracy...i don't own a psp. I never hacked or modded my consoles to play, nor did i installed homebrew on them. It's unfortunate that most Sony owners here (Talking psp and ps2 in Greece) do not see the piracy issue as a bad thing. But i believe that the psp sales as a system got a boost from the hack-easy label of the system. But the sofware sales plummeted for the same reason.
