Forums - Sales - First day sold in japan, Folks Soul bombs hard...

@Konichiwa...:

Yeah right... Expanding the market and creating a new BRILLIANT (iff u ask me) control scheme is killing the console market?!   Pfff... Dream on! That's one of the most funny phrases i've ever heard! That's like saying DS is killing the industry...

And yeah: Okami... = fair enough! It did receive good reviews but didn't NEARLY sell as well as Zelda! (Which i still think was better)... So it kinda is the same case as was with BG&E... Which got good revs too... But sold about 400k or somethin?!

So do people see this as a sign of the beginnings of a new paradigm in the gaming industry?

Yes, games developpers who work long into a game and spending a lot of money into a game make almost no profit, but games developpers who make easy small games make a lot profit :( big money developpers are dieying thanks to nintendo :(.

they'll likely die REGARDLESS of nintendo. nintendo is just accelerating their downfall.

there is a silver lining: there will be fewer big budget titles, but those that do arrive on the market should be gems.

That is so sad.

apocalyse of the videogames!!!!!!!!! jajaja

are only games, you sound like politicians

Bush:

"they'll likely die REGARDLESS of terrorism. terrorism is just accelerating their downfall.

there is a silver lining: there will be democratic countries, but those that do arrive on the world should be gems"

Tony Blair:

1) Denial - Wait til VF5, Motorstorm, Gundam Musou, NGS, Folksoul, HSG5, etc comes out.

2) Anger - Nintendo is ruining gaming with cheap kiddie games.

3) Bargaining - Sony learned it's lesson and PS4 will dominate.

4) Depression - Sony really lost it, gaming is doomed.

5) Acceptance - The Wii 2 is going to be fantastic!

I agree with gballzack.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Cry me a river you bleeding heart fanboy.

1. Nintendo couldn't have killed anything if it wasn't what the consumer already wanted dead.

Consumers could afford it so they bought it

2. Nintendo actually didn't kill anything, in fact, its actually keeping that legacy of developing you speak of very much alive on its console, not that you would recognize it as all you want to see is the cheap ports and mini-games. I doubt you'd even be able to recognize that style of game development if it didn't cost upwards of 30 million dollars to develop and nearly four years to produce.

3. It's not Nintendo's fault that Sony and MS raised the bar of game development too high and out of reach of the consumer. It's not Nintendo's fault that Sony and MS let the market stagnate while focusing ever more specifically on narrowing genres instead of expanding their product's appeal. You've no one to blame but Sony and MS.

Or Nintendo to low and just sell the most of their games for kids and woman while hardcore games just buys
an PC.

Nintendo is not the culprit, its the Harbinger of Reality. If you don't like it, play on a PC. You've no right to complain.

Expanding the market for kids and woman YES!  Making the market smaller for Hardocre games YES!
thank you Nintendo

Also...you don't know what you're talking about if you say games like Mario Kart or Mario Tennis are just cheap cash-ins...and that by sticking the name Mario on it, it sells like hotcakes.

Part of that is true...having a Mario theme makes it recognizable and you know it's a quality Nintendo title, so it gets bought right off the bat. But that's just it; they are quality titles nonetheless. Mario Tennis is an amazing game...simple yet challenging, and most Mario games are multiplayer...and it's very fun. Virtua Tennis is great, but Mario Tennis is more crazy fun.

I'm not sure how expanding = making hardcore market smaller...but konnichiwa seems to think that's how it works. If all you want to play is CounterStrike, buy a decent PC. I'm not sure what type of game is hardcore to you.

And the argument that people only buy the Wii because "they can afford it" is basically correct.  "Ah lame, people only buy Wii because it's cheap!"  aaaand?  What's your point?

Yes, the PS3 is too expensive for me, it's too expensive for my friends, it's too expensive for the average consumer.  That is a BAD thing.  I actually don't know a single person anymore who owns a PS3.  I know a lot of 360 owners and a lot of Wii owners.  Nobody I know would or can throw down $600 for a gaming system...especially one that so far is on par with 360.

Nintendo is making both kinds of games and they make big profits on both kinds. But well, let's go on to the interesting part, the one I bolded.

If big budget games are dying that's the fault of their respective publishers, if they are stupid enough to spend so much money on consoles (360, PS3) that don't have the necessary userbases to support these kind of games. Or just blame consumers for being not willing to spend more than $300 on a console, not Nintendo.

Big budget games can only survive if they are made for a console with a high userbase. To get a high userbase you need to expand on the existing markets and attract new consumers with a wide variety of software, the PS2 didn't become big because it only had big budget games.

So, in fact, Nintendo is doing quite the opposite of what you are implying, their strategy for market expansion helps 3rd parties to keep developing big budget games in the future. The Wii is helping the market as a whole much more than you want to believe.

In history the consoles always were kind of expensive so that is not the problem.
The problem is that Microsoft and Sony have made a console that would push hardware, gaming to a next
dimension while Nintendo just stays where they were. So nintendo is killing the future of gaming.

Boohoo, Nintendo decided to make a new strategy that's working. Sony over-engineered their system making it unaffordable. I wish people would rally and get that second job to buy a PS3. Why are they so lazy?

From what you said, it sounds like MS and Sony are the culprits, for making systems that are attainable for only the wealthy.

They were never as expensive as they are now. Well, there were expensive consoles (3DO, cd-i for example) before and they had all one thing in common and that was that they died pretty soon. Maybe the problem for MS and Sony is that they stayed where they were, just with improved graphics?

Actually, Nintendo is pushing gaming to the next dimension much more than MS and Sony combined. Motion sensitive controls are the future, they won't be used in every game, but they will become a part of gaming just like shoulder buttons and analogue sticks are.

If Nintendo is killing anything than it is Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's 360 (which you see as the future of gaming apparently).

If you think the Wii is graphicswise on par with the Gamecube (I assume this is what you meant with saying "they just stay where they were"), you will be in for a big surprise. The more 3rd parties will shift their resources to the Wii (and they will, for an obvious reason: profits), the more they will push the hardware to its limits, just like they did with the PS2 last generation.

Lol that a Wii fanboys says this!
The wii is just a mix with the Wizard glove and the Eye toy.
