Ok, so I'm new here.  Or rather, I've been visiting for a while and the constant whining about E3 finally made me sign up and post.

It's safe to say that my favorite genre of video games is RPGs.  Theres not quite the gap that there used to be, but it's still my favorite.  That being said..I've lost all faith in Square Enix - as of a few years ago - and still don't understand the hype behind FF13.  The only thing I can give SE credit for is coming up with new concepts and ways to play the games.  Which is great..unless you completely change the formula that made the games popular.  To me, the past few Final Fantasy games are doing nothing but dragging the name in the mud..they aren't Final Fantasy.  Call me old fashion, but no FF game has come close to as good as FFVII..and it was turn-based.  Not only that, they had a good system for it where although it was turn-based, gameplay didn't stop..monsters would still attack when they could even if you didn't.  Granted, I wasn't impressed with FFX-2 and the whole class changing idea, but I thought it was really creative.  I'm still trying really really hard to figure out why so many people liked FFXII.

My question is..they're on number 13..why not slow down the franchise and use all these new ideas on new games?  That way they could continually put out FFVII quality Final Fantasy games and stop remodeling the face of the franchise. Do they think people play Final Fantasy because of its name?  I for one didn't..I played because I was a huge Square fan back in the day of Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Crono Trigger - hell you could even say Illusion of Gaia even though it was Enix before they merged.

I could care less whether FFXIII is exclusive or not, or to what extent.  I won't even waste my time downloading a demo if they give one, because as far as I'm concerned they don't appreciate what made them who they are anymore.  And that's a big hit for me being that RPG's are my favorite genre.  Hell, A few years ago I even applied for a job with them..now they can diaf for all I care. (totally not a threat, just a gesture of strong disinterest)

Before you think I'm just some PS3 fanboy - I own a 60gb PS3 and an XBOX360 elite.  I do prefer the PS3 - by far - but you could say I'm into game development..in otherwords, I know a good game when I see it, regardless of console.  I just happen to like the disc-based games a little more on PS3, and the PS3 Store games are normally way WAY better than anything you can get on XBLA..like space giraffe?  Come on..SPACE GIRAFFE?  If I ever saw such a crappy game on PS3 store, I'd sh*t a brick.

I used to be a Nintendo fanboy until a co-worker broke the news to me that FFVII was going to be exclusive on the... PlayStation.  Since then, it cured my fanboy stance, and I broke down to buy a PlayStation, FFVII, and a memory card.  And for a while, I was one of the biggest FF fanboys.  Enjoyed the original FF and FFII(IV), FFVII thru FFIX on the PlayStation, replayed I and IV in the form of PlayStation remakes, and finished most of V and VI.  But ever since FFX, the series has been crap.  Just crap.  Hated the storyline of FFX, and half the voiceovers were horrible.  FFXI should have been "FFOnline" like how Sega did "Phantasy Star Online."  Calling an MMO "FFXI" was just Squaresoft's attempt to make FF fans buy the game because it was part of the main series with "XI" labeled after "FF."  And FFX-2... WTH???  Then there was FFXI.  I did buy the collectors Ed. and guide for the sake of old time, but sadly, it was basically garbage.  During the PS2 days, Squaresoft (of course later SquareEnix) fell off the radar for me.  I'm hopeful that FFXIII will bring me back.  The Promo vids are nice eye-candy, but FFXII was as well.

Square claims that FFXIII will be like the transition from VI to VII.  But with the way how the series has been going, my anticipation level is minimal compared to the PSOne day.  In fact, it's just minimal, period.  Let's see what happens.

So do what I do. When you need a good RPG fix, just dig into your PS1 library... you can't go wrong.

Just because XBLA comes out with more titles doesn't mean anything.  The quality of the games is what matters.  And you have to understand that I include titles like GT5 Prologue and Warhawk..you may consider them disc-based, I consider them download games.  And what XBLA game can come close to either of those?  Seriously..?  I'll wait all day for you to answer that one.

Dude, are you quoting yourself? Interesting...

You don't need to wait all day long. You compare XBLA titles to full games? Clever!

Well, at the same trail, I could bring up the XBOX Originals Series. And guess what. The forthcoming Jade Empire is kicking Warhawk's arse!!!

On topic. I own a 360 only. And I don't give a shit either the FFXIII is coming or not. But I know that a lot of people do and the fact that is coming pleases me. For me, the extra exclusive content on Fallout 3 should be enough. And Dragon Age Origins coming to consoles? That is a wet dream...

A lot of people dont care, somewhere around 6 billion people in the world dont care. What matters is the people who do care!! And yes, alot of people do care.

I'm not sure what's more pathetic: Someone who cringes at the thought of an owner of a different console enjoying a game on their console or someone who is so amazingly narrow minded that they will completely write off a game before they ever even have any real information about it.

Well, if you don't like the genre, I can see the stress. I often prejudge games, myself, but I always love when games go multiplat.

People claiming that they don't care, or that the game doesn't matter are one of two things:

A. Damage Control PS3 fanboys who were and are still very excited about the game.

B. People who never liked JRPGs in the first place, and are just pissed that the 360 fanboys have free range to rag the PS3 fanboys, so they attempt to marginalize the game because it means nothing to them.

Frankly, it's always been my most anticipated game of this generation, and I'd throw out garbage like Gears of War 2, Resistance 2, God of War 3, and Gran Turismo in the trash bin if doing so would give me an opportunity to play the DEMO of Final Fantasy XIII. I bought a PS3 for this game and MGS. Somehow MGS didn't dissapoint, and since I've never played a bad FF game from the main series, I believe this one want either.

So, insecure Sony fanboys, please stop flaming FFXIII because you are upset that 360 fanboys are using it for ammo against your console. Your mainstream, cheap gaming device will have enough games by then, that it can afford to share one.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

So you are a ps3 fanboy basically...

What purpose does this serve?  All you're doing baiting the guy into a pointless argument taking petty pot shots.  If you don't have something of substance to add then you can just leave the thread.

No different that you claiming, "average ps3 owner being more jelous...than a 360 owner..." in an earlier thread.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

I'm mildly interested, I guess, mostly out of habit since I've played every Final Fantasy so far. But after X-2 and XII, I'm not really that psyched for it, and am really starting to doubt that Square minus Sakaguchi can really recapture the feeling that made the old FFs so great. To me, Lost Odyssey was the best Final Fantasy game in years.

We've just not really seen enough to make me all that curious about it, either. I'm looking much more forward to Last Remnant than XIII, just because it's something _different_.

Edit: But I will admit, that moment in the trailer where the little harlequin creature popped out of the disc and the chick's reaction to it- made my heart swell, a little.

You do know that it takes years and lots of analysis, ressources and teams for each FF, so you´re whole point of slowing down FF releases doesn´t compute. If they did that, they would lose the ball of the current generation and their FF would release at dawn of the next-gen.

I don´t know where you´re looking at, but SE has way more franchises than just FF. Just take a look at all their handheld games and their upcoming xbox360 RPGs. All of them are the product of business ideas.

What you don´t realize is that people want changes and innovation. You´re stuck in your youth when you´ve played FFVII, with the cocky Sephiroth, hallucinating Cloud, swearing Barret, lovable Aerith, cold and calm Vincent, "One Winged Angel", "Aerith theme", etc..., Materia and ATB system. The franchise has and will always get remodeled and further enhanced according to the needs of the market. FF was expanded from the simple FFII and FFIII to the story-driven FFII, FFIV and FFVI. then when it leaped to PS it was remodeled, hence came FFVII and FFVIII, it was again remodeled with FFX and again remodeled with FFX-2 and FFXII. If they hadn´t brought new ideas, there would have never been FFT and Ivalice which I am very fond of and FFCC as well, which has a certain following.

 Um...  How about...

C. Gamers and former fans of the series who felt that the series have taken a nose dive, leaving ample reason to be cautious of a new installment.

You're the one sounding like a fanboy with such a narrow stance.  Maybe this is your insecurity since there are other reasons to "don't care" as I have provided.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

FF is considered to be a AAA franchise while other RPG series like Tales, Disgaea and Star Ocean are B-level
