Forums - Sales - PS3 - 360; and the gap shortens....

Price drop on one console, more for same cost on another. Plenty of Exclusives and 3rd party games, rumors and fables, hype and more hype, tit for tat and this is the story of the 360 and PS3.

IMO it won't be this year, but next year that Sony catches up and takes over. I don't see Sony losing momentum at the moment. Looks like the swap over from 360 to PS3 has begun.

I have spoken to several people who bought the 360 as a time pass console until the ps3 was released. Some stuck by the 360 until PS3 had more games and then changed over, the others stood by and awaited a price drop whilst some others waited for blu ray to be the format winner before they purchased a PS3. It seems everyday, more of these former PS2 owners are given reason to change over. If Sony announce another price drop, it will be all over for the 360. They will come in 3rd place this generation. It's just a matter of time.

It sure does but it will take long time to overtake 360.

Summer '09 PS3 first overtakes the XBOX 360.

You act like it will be an incredible achievement if PS3 will overtake the 360. At the current pace that won't be in the first half of 2009.
If you see it perspective you'll see that last gen the PS2 outsold the 360 by 100 million units and all of a sudden you're saying that passing the 360 2.5 years in the PS3's life is a major accomplishment. That's fanboy talk.

Microsoft doesn't really care about that 3rd place (of course they wouldn't mind winning). Their Entertainment Division is profitable and they have acquired an excellent position for their next Xbox. In this gen they achieved incredible stuff: GTA, RE, DMC and now even FF are now all on their machine. The 360 is a success for Microsoft.

Sony is a totally different story. They lose loads of money, the lost almost all exclusives bare MGS and will be in a much weaker position for the PS4. Sure the PS3 will come in second, no doubt about that, but they've lost an aweful lot this gen.

let's party then. I think maybe Fall or winter of 09.

Yay! But, this is all obvious, isn't it?

My call is 1st quarter 09, then we can see the 360 get the crappy ports and scaled down games for a change! We are already seeing PS3 software compete or beat out the 360's, even at this stage with many more 360's to PS3's sold.

@Bengabenga

It is an achivement. The PS3 has had nothing but bad failier stamped on it by the press and many people since it's release till not so long ago. It's software library has been weak and it's lacked the exclusives to really compete well. The negatives were many as it was kinder released as a beta and lacked many of the promissed hardware abilities till recently. The 360 came out a lot earlier, has always been cheaper and had more software.

So, yeh, it is a big feat. But who is comparing it to the PS2 here anyway? I believe the thread is about the current war, isn't it?

Benga Benga what are you doing? Nothing I said even in the slightest resembles anything fanboyish. At no point have I said it will be a big achievement, nor have I said it will be a major accomplishment. I never said MS cares about being 3rd, nor did I say MS was unsuccessful.

If anything, your post shows that you didn't read what i wrote and translated as YOU so fit adding a bit of your own spice and to further add to this, it doesn't look like you are a fan of Sony. If anything it looks like you are totally against sony and don't like them at all.

Since you are someone that seems who likes to play fair and stick to the topic, you seem to have gone against your own principles. Nothing you said relates to the topic which is under SALES in context of the gap between 360 and PS3 getting smaller.

Your last paragraph only argues one side and is out of context with the topic. try arguing both sides if you wish to remain fair. As you say yourself, fanboyism isn't anything to be proud off!

P.s. for your information. I have both at the moment. a 360 and a ps3!

@Kowenicki

No, edited for your opinion, cause, like mine, that's all yours is!

Ever since the PS3 was announced everyone expected it to win the console wars hands down. But you're right that compared to the horrible first 8 months the PS3 recovered ok.

Yeah, the thread is about the current war, but what I'm saying is that a 2nd place in the current war is still a major loss for Sony. And of course it's important to view the PS2 in this picture, since that's where expectations come from. Also for Sony itself. During the PS1 and PS2 days SCE was a very successful part of Sony, not anymore and even if it will regain profitability it won't ever be able to achieve the success of the PS1/PS2 days. This automatically leads to less money for the devlopment of new games and the new console, since the predictions have to be re-evaluated.

For the companies their place in the console war is of no value besides PR. It's the hard figures that matter, and in that way Microsoft is doing better than Sony at the moment.
