Well there obviously is more than just your own imagination, there's also a set of tools in the form of a video game to use with your imagination. That said, lot of these hand on sessions suggest Wii Music doesn't provide particularly involving or interesting tools. Too which I say bummer if that's the case. =P
He doesn't say why we don't need Guitar Hero or Rockband, he just says he is aiming for a different, mroe friendly experience.

That's a misleading title. He doesn't say we don't need RB or GH. He is just describing the music game he wanted to make, which isn't a knock on those other games. Plus these translations are often misinterpreted, so I wouldn't dissect it word by word.
Translation : " I know RB and GH is really popular, so popular it makes Wii Music overlooked, so nintendo would rather force their consumer's the product that nintendo says is acceptable
